The family is lovely and very helpful; they are locals who know the area well and can provide great tips on what to do in Kirkwall and the surrounding area. The facilities are newly renovated and quite modern. We did the continental breakfast; they have a menu you fill out the night before which is great for reducing waste. The food was fresh, well-prepared, and more than enough to keep us going for a long day of exploring the islands. Our room was clean and well equipped and the beds were comfortable. They are located about a kilometre outside of the city centre so if you are travelling without a vehicle be prepared for a little bit of a walk into town.

Comfy bed and a cosy room. A Lovely bathroom. Great breakfast selection with hot food option. Attentive host. A little far out of town for two ladies with dodgy knees, however only a fifteen minute walk- so we were told 😂 Unseasonably warm and sunny weather made the trip memorable Suggest a fan in the room for future use

Excellent B&B, accommodation perfect, factilties 1st class. Host Albert and his family very welcoming and could not do enough for you. The restoration he has done on a listed building is amazing. Would highly recommend to all and will be definitely be back. Only 10 mins walk into town.

I had the absolute pleasure of staying at Grainbank Mews whilst attending to work related business on the island of Orkney. I met the owner on my first evening who was charming, engaging and helpful. The room was nicely appointed, very clean and spacious with a great “wet room” en-suite. Breakfast was first class and certainly provided that much needed early morning boost! If you are looking for family operated accommodation, in a good location then you must certainly book a stay at the Grainbank Mews - You will not be disappointed.

Exceptional accommodation in Kirkwall. We stayed on two separate occasions and both rooms exceeded our expectations. Everything was spotless and a lot of thought has gone into what travellers require at an accommodation. Continental brekkie was also excellent, especially the porridge :). We highly recommend this accommodation when in Kirkwall.
