Plato's

Had a super stay at Plato’s. Room was a little small but perfectly adequate . Kirkby Lonsdale is a great little sleepy village with nice walks to Devils Bridge. The staff were very friendly but the main winner was the food. The evening meal was fantastic, as was the breakfast.

Superb hotel and restaurant in lovely location. Cosy real fire and lovely friendly staff. Food was top quality. All reasonably priced and we had a very pleasant stay in this beautiful part of the country and all-in-all, it made a weekend away a great experience.

A huge thank you to the whole Plato’s team for making our celebratory lunch so special. Arina looked after us so well. The kitchen team excelled with delicious langoustines and fillet steak cooked to perfection. All topped off with a yummy crème brûlée. We can’t thank you enough! Tom, Mike, Richard and Christina. X

The main problem was I relied on the description of Platos on Tripadvisor. It says Platos offers small plates. But it turned out small plates are on offer only on Friday and Saturday. On Tuesday the menu consists mainly of steaks on large plates. Which was fine for those in our party who liked steaks. But a disaster for those that didn’t! So partly my fault I should have looked at Platos own website. But seems strange that a slightly more varied menu is not on offer on weekdays. Not everyone likes a steak. On the plus side the steaks were delicious and the room was very comfortable.

Always enjoyed Platos in the past but recent stay was disappointing. Sunday dinner was choice between piazzas served after 6pm or “carvery” served up to 5pm. Carvery was large amount of pub grub kept warm, and we served ourselves, and no dessert course. Before eating dinner be prepared to pay your bill (?) regardless of whether you are resident or visitor. Breakfast cooked fresh was good, but locked front door meant exiting side door then squeezing past wheelie bins? Not the same place and lacks experienced oversight.

Great small hotel with comfortable rooms & lovely bar. We stayed for two nights over Easter & had a great time. Ate in the tapas restaurant one night which was great. Nice owners & staff & delicious breakfasts. We were lucky with the weather too!!

Recently stayed at Plato’s Winebar, Restaurant & Rooms at Kirkby Lonsdale … what a thoroughly enjoyable stay, excellent rooms with a high standard of decor & every facility you could need, we stayed in room 8 with a view right down the high street. Friendly staff ( couldn’t do enough to help); excellent food & drink, breakfast to die for, eggs done to perfection & parking permit issued with parking just a shot walk away. Situated at one end of the high street, step outside & you find yourself right in the heart of village life with the quaint little shops & restaurants & pubs. Vey dog friendly, takes you back in time. A gem of a place, we wouldn’t hesitate to go back to.

The owners and staff were extremely accommodating over our difficulties with the stairs. The rooms are spotless and beautifully decorated. Although we didn’t dine in we found the breakfast choice to be exceptional and recommend the fruit and granola starter. Some instructions for the overhead showers might help though!!!

Just back from a 4 night stay here & can’t wait to return. The staff were simply amazing, with special thanks to Ronnie for going above & beyond.. we were always welcomed each time we came back to the hotel, a lovely touch, it was like coming back home. The room was spotless & the beams made it so cosy, so many little touches the room was just perfect. The bed was so comfortable, great shower, large soft towels. The view from our velux windows was amazing. The breakfast was delicious with a good choice, all freshly cooked, we had 2 evening meals which again were lovely, no complaints at all. I would definitely recommend this to family & friends who were staying in the area.
