Killarney Mountain Lodge

Best summer weekend ever! Serene lodge, wonderful and professional staff, great food and magical sunsets. Will be coming back for sure!

We stayed with family on a warm couple days in July. Mix of adults and young children. I should start by saying that the location is excellent, and the views are superb. This resort should be top rated just for that. The resort had really nice hikes very close by, canoes/kayaks, tennis court, pool, etc. Again really nice but sort of expected for the price. Probably not the style of resort for young children, and that’s fair considering the resort doesn’t necessarily cater to that age group. We stayed at the East House, which is ‘historic’ but needs some TLC. Flexible check in was appreciated. Almost none of the doors closed properly or at all, many windows had issues, some didn’t open and the sills were covered with dead bugs. Strong urine smell on the second floor? Slanted floors throughout are understandable given the age of the building however because of this the shower doors didn’t stay closed. Lots of space for a large group, bathrooms nicely updated, and comfortable beds were pluses. The chairs/deck out front had some sort of rodent poop all over at arrival, looked like bats. Some poop inside too, but it would be hard to keep them out of this older house. It was really hot. Especially upstairs rooms. I wouldn’t recommend staying in this unit if it is the peak of summer, the rooms got up to 29 degrees, even overnight. Rainfall floods the lower front entrance and makes it hard to enter/exit the building. No fire pits here. We didn’t feel the value represent the high nightly rate at $1000/night. It’s a pricey resort overall, but they have a market so I guess you can charge it for the area. The pool area is nice, but the pool is very inaccessible. Stairs to get up to it from lower cabins. Then no real entrance into the pool. No shallow end. If you have a hard time climbing/pulling yourself up a side ladder, you basically can’t use the pool as it’s the only way in and out. Limited shade. The food on the resort was good, but pricey. If I came back, I wouldn’t bring the kids and wouldn’t spend the money for the extra space/house and just book cabins because that’s really the experience we had even in the house we booked. Nice location, but didn’t feel the value was there overall.

My wife and I arrived on a Wednesday for a 2 night stay. We had a King room booked on the second floor of the Covered Portage. The smoke detector was hanging down by the wires so I notified the desk. I was told someone would be up to fix it. Never happened. The clock didn't work either and trying to get the room door open required a lot of jimmying. The stairwell was filthy and the ground around the bottom deck was covered with cigarette butts. The first night we ate in the Main lodge. My ribs were so charred it was like trying to eat charcoal. They did apologize and comped my meal. Also unfortunately, there was a large group (35-40) men there for a fishing event. Some got REALLY drunk, super loud with tons of swearing. Same thing the second night. The best meal was breakfast. The food we were served at our dinners was not great. The one kudo I must give out was the manager Andres. He went above and beyond to make our stay more pleasant and provided us with an excellent wine tasting experience. Final note. The music being played in the great lodge, restaurant and bar was an endless stream of country. For those of us who are not fans of country, at least try and mix it up a bit more. Fortunately the weather was good, the hiking fantastic and the scenery outstanding.
