Don Som Riverside Guesthouse

We arrived by accident at Don Som Guesthouse (literally we were taken to the wrong island), but it was the BEST mistake ever! The beautiful staff welcomed us in straight away and made us feel safe and at home. This island is like something most people will never had the pleasure to expeience. There are literally no tourists there, apart from whoever is staying at the guesthouse (its the only accomodation on the island). This is the ‘real’ Laos. We wandered through the village street, and people waving and calling out ‘madi/hello’. The villas were beautiful and simple and had the best view of the Mekong to wake up to. Food was delicious, beers were cold and prices were exceptionally reasonable. I highly recommend this place for people who want to have an experience that they will never forget. I didnt know places like this existed anymore. Brilliant!!

Simple, Peaceful, Beautiful, Perfect. Don Som isn't the obvious choice and truly off the beaten track but that’s why we decided to stay here, and it was totally worth it. The guesthouse is located along the river with a beautiful view over the Mekong. You will see the local life, get enthusiastic greetings from the kids (Sabaidee), enjoy the nature and villages around the island either on bicycle or motorbike. The surrounding is beautiful, the rooms are basic but nice, and the food is excellent. We had a wonderful stay at the guesthouse of Sander and Tanoi. The hosts are great and will help you with absolutely everything! If you are searching for a unique and serene place (off the beaten path) away from all crowds, then this is the place for you.

Mein Aufenthalt im Gueshouse von Tanoi und Sander war ein Highlight meiner Laos Reise. Mir wurde die Unterkunft von Freunden empfohlen, so dass ich bereits mit einer höheren Erwartung als normal angereist bin. Schon vor der Anreise war der Kontakt und die Hilfsbereitschaft super und hat die Planung um vieles vereinfacht. Die Unterkunft direkt am Mekong gelegen mit Hängematte, um einfach mal zu chillen und den Fischern zuzusehen. Auf der Insel gibt es nur dieses eine Gästehaus, die Insel selbst ist sehr ländlich und man kann das ursprüngliche Laos erleben. Die Verkostung im Gästehaus ist lecker und durch den Gemeinschaftsraum findet man auch gut Kontakt zu anderen Reisenden, wenn gewünscht. Scooter können gemietet werden um auch auf die Nachbarinsel Don Det mit der Fähre zu erreichen und zu erkunden. Ich konnte auch an einem Kochkurs in der Unterkunft teilnehmen, angefangen vom Marktbesuch, bis zur Zubereitung auf dem mit Kohle betriebenen BBQ/Herd. Für die Kinder des Dorfes gibt es einen Community Center, den die beiden ins Leben gerufen haben, hier kann man mithelfen, wenn man Zeit und Lust hat. Ein erfahrungsreicher und erholsamer Aufenthalt! Kleiner Tip: Wenn man einen leichten Schlaf hat, Ohrstöpsel mitnehmen - der Fluss rauscht, die Frösche quaken, eine verirrte Ziege blökt und die Fischer schmeissen ihre Motoren doch recht früh an um ihrer Arbeit nachzugehen.

Fantastische plek, prachtig uitzicht over de Mekong, mooie houten huisjes op palen. Don Khong, geen massatoerisme, 't Echte Laotiaanse leven kom je hier tegen. Sander en Toni, behulpzaam en gastvrij. We zijn warm ontvangen. Een aanrader.

Me hospedé en el whitelaw hotel y tenían este maravilloso restaurante mexicano para mí sorpresa . La comida es bien rica no tengo que buscar más ! Unas margaritas sabrosas y lo mejor es que tienen las Big size para toda la comida 🤣! Muy buen servicio , gracias Amanda por tu atención , recomendados al 100%
