We had a great stay at the Montage with 9 people - 4 adults and 5 kids ages 11-16. We booked our room directly through a villa owner and had a great bunk room for all the kids and 2 master suites. Having a laundry room and full kitchen in the villa was amazing! The property is lovely and the staff were amazing. We were there over Christmas break and had to reserve chairs at 7am everyday, but I think that is only for that week. The staff said they’ve never seen it that busy before. The pools are amazing - the kids had a blast. The staff there is very low-key and really give the kids free rein. The water is heated to 79 so not too hot and still refreshing when you jump in. And the pools don’t close so you can swim any time of day, which the kids loved. There are lots of waitstaff at the pool and we had plenty of drinks and lunch at the pool everyday. Kelsey and Anu were wonderful servers at the pool. The beach is about a 5-7 minute walk. Our kids who usually love to boogie board and snorkel and be in the ocean didn’t want to go to it. It’s very rocky and not sand once you get in the water. If you want a beach vacation this is not the place. Every night the adults went to the Hideaway for cocktails after dinner and loved the vibe there. It’s also a great spot for a casual dinner - we ate here one night and it was good. Jeremy the bartender took very good care of us - I don’t think I’ve ever seen another person work as hard as he did that week. We ate off-property every night except 1 night at Cane and Canoe and 1 night for room service. We did not have a good experience at Cane and Canoe for dinner, but the F&B Manager apologized and went out of his way to make it right. Our breakfast at Cane and Canoe was decent. Would highly-recommend Montage for a family vacation. I wouldn’t pick it for a couple’s trip/honeymoon since it’s more family-focused, but that may just because we were there during Christmas and there were 7 million kids. The staff, the pool, the views, and the villa accommodations make it a great family spot. Also, the amount of off-property dining within 10 minutes (car) is amazing. We will definitely be back.

The Montage has several categories of room. The most expensive one bedroom is the 1 Bedroom Premier Ocean View Residence. They claim "The first thing you see when stepping into this tranquil retreat is the sparkling blue ocean." They charge 2-4 thousand a night for this. We checked in and it was really a pool view room with the ocean In the distance. There is no tranquility, unless you like to hear amplified music in your bedroom with the windows closed and children screaming at the pool. You can sort of see the ocean, if you look past the lawn, the other buildings, the pool, the bar and the trees. After complaining, we were moved to another room and told that NONE OF THE ONE BEDROOM ROOMS WERE CLOSE TO THE OCEAN. ALL HAVE A SIMILAR VIEW OF THE OCEAN, BUT THE FIRST THING YOU SEE AND HEAR IS NOT THE OCEAN. the photo shows views from our first room we declined and the second we settled for. Other than the view, the room is nice. Check in was easy, valet great, staff trying to accommodate, but they didn't create the deceptive web site.

The resort was beautiful, well maintained and gorgeously landscaped. The motto of "you get what you pay for" held true... and it was worth every penny! Truth be told, the service was simply outstanding from check-in, to cleaning service, to food service, etc. Location in Kapalua is great for the coastal walk, near to Merriman's, etc., although Kapalua Bay leaves something to be desired... However, the Montage team, property, pools, activities, etc. more than makes up for what the beach is lacking! I would highly recommend a 5/6 day stay for relaxation!

This hotel is amazing. I have no notes. We stayed at the Montage for 3 nights, then we went on to Hana Maui and the Grand Wailea (that one was a big mistake!) and I found myself missing the montage. The service at the montage is incredible, the pool is very fun (we had a 5 year old) and the shaded chairs at the beach and pool were included in our cost (I’m specifically mentioning this because of the nickel and diming at the Grand Wailea) The food at their main restaurant, Cane and Canoe, was wonderful. The room was stunning, there was a beautiful trail head to the right of the property….this was an absolutely incredible experience. We also stayed at the Four Seasons on the Big Island on a previous vacation and while we loved it, we gave the edge to the Montage because the service (including food service), pool side service, and the food were all incredible! We made a huge mistake not coming back to the montage. It’s true luxury and vacation, and it’s pretty quiet and peaceful too.

Beautiful property with relaxing atmosphere. The beach was pretty and very calm, great for snorkeling. We hiked to the beach through the trail but wasn’t worth it. The wind was blowing sand and we weren’t able to stay for more than a few minutes. The pool area is nice and has a variety of different areas to enjoy.
