On the outskirts of this crowded hectic city, Kandy House is a small boutique hotel that caters to guests with warmth, kindness, and an extraordinary level of service. From the moment we arrived – and even after we had left, we felt pampered and cared for by our wonderful personnel butler Chamee as well as the hotel’s experienced and charming manager. Our trip was last minute and the only room available for our dates turned out to be the hotel’s largest suite - Red Spot– named after a butterfly so we had no idea when we reserved that this meant our room included a huge wrap around terrace for our exlusive use – complete with couch, enormous floor space and a dining table which Chamee set up for private candlelit dinners overlooking a garden. Need a yoga mat? No problem. Drinks on the terrace at sunset? Of course. With the expert advice of the hotel’s manager, we hired an excellent tuk tuk driver to drive us to the Temple of the Tooth about 20 minutes away. The driver protected us from the touts and made sure we did not get lost. The hotel’s manager also helped us hire the perfect driver to take us on our long drive from Polannawaru to Kandy. We liked the driver so much, we hired him to stay with us for the rest of our trip! Kandy House is not inexpensive. But for the attention, care, wisdom, and service it offers, it is worth every penny – particularly if Chamee takes care of you.
