We stayed at EuroParcs Bad Hoophuizen during the Defqon.1 weekend, and while the location had a lot of potential, our experience was quite mixed. Positive aspects first: Check-in was smooth and the staff kindly allowed us to check in much earlier than the official time, which we really appreciated. The park itself is beautiful and well-equipped with a mini market, a restaurant, and a spa area. Our house had a well-stocked kitchen with plenty of dishes, glasses, and cookware – definitely a plus for anyone planning to cook. However, we faced several issues during our stay: The cleanliness of our accommodation was far from acceptable. There was sand on the floor, a random sock under one of the beds, and to our shock, we found a rotting, moldy piece of fruit in one of the kitchen cabinets. Dust was visibly collecting inside the cupboards, indicating the place hadn’t been cleaned thoroughly before our arrival. Another major disappointment was the spa area. There were no English signs at the wellness entrance, and when we asked the reception how to access it, we were told that because we came for the Defqon.1 festival, we were not allowed to use the spa or rent bikes. This was never mentioned anywhere during booking, and it felt very unfair – we paid the same price as every other guest but were denied access to certain services simply because we were festival attendees. That was honestly frustrating and felt discriminatory. On the plus side, the shuttle bus between the park and the Defqon.1 festival was excellent – very well organized and super convenient. Overall: If you’re visiting during Defqon.1, be aware that some facilities may be off-limits even if you’re a paying guest. It’s a great location with good infrastructure, but the management should communicate restrictions more clearly and improve the cleaning standards.
