A great boutique hotel outside of Kandy. The property is located within a natural tropical setting surrounded by beautiful vegatstion and with great views of the distant mountains of central Sri Lanka. The staff is extremely friendly and attentive. The central villa is beautifully maintained and reflects another long past era. The pool is a wonderful retreat after a long day visiting the local sights. The rooms are well maintained, modern and a great retreat. Finally both the breakfast and dinner selections were excellent.

Relaxing and invigorating. The hotel is set among palm trees with views to the hills over Kandy. After a swim, we relaxed around the stunning pool and had freshly baked cake and cups of tea. The food is delicious, and the kitchen cooks everything to order. Bedrooms are comfortable and stylish. David, our charming host, has filled the library and sitting area with beautiful artworks and curios. Staff are warm and helpful. Can't recommend highly enough.

The Place - Super Clean!!!! The entire lay out of the property has been perfectly planned and constructed. Clean!!! Rooms, toiletries. The staff of Ranjan, Lahiru, Herath ensured that our stay was extremely comfortable with their warmth and affection. Food . Lovely!!!!!! Super taste. Great Show!!! Thanks a ton

We arrived at Flame Tree after doing Dambulla Cave Temple and Polonnaruwa for a few days so we were super excited to arrive at this STUNNING destination. This trip is our honeymoon and we also are travelling with a friend who has just celebrated a rather special birthday. Everything from start to finish is just fabulous here. All the staff are delightful without exception and go out of their way to ensure you have the best time and experience. David the owner was charming and popped up from time to time to check in or share a funny story - everyone needs a David in their life (seriously thank you) We had torrential rain the whole time we were there but it didn’t matter as the space is delightful, from the books to the artwork, gorgeous rooms and delicious food. We laughed we ate we snoozed we ate again and to our surprise we were made a special cake for the double celebration. We would highly recommend this place if you are in the area - you really won’t be disappointed

I have always wanted to stay in one of these restored country houses and I was delighted by Flame Tree. The beautiful decor and the art collection is worth the trip alone. I am interested in Sri Lankan art and history so this ticked all my boxes. Our room was gorgeous and we went for a walk around the estate grounds. David has done a magnificent job and he is a charming host, taking the time to chat to those who want to and also giving guests space and privacy. The set menu food is delicious and we enjoyed it on the terrace as the monsoon rain poured. When the sun came out, the pool was exactly what we needed to relax with a cooling lime soda or king coconut. Our only regret was not being able to stay longer due to our flight rescheduling.

This property is a delight, a stunning retreat. We stayed for 2 nights in September and thoroughly enjoyed our short stay whilst sightseeing in Kandy. Our driver weren’t too sure where it was had to use his satnav which took the scenic route up the precarious long winding lanes high up in the mountains. I’d wondered if I had done the right thing booking this accommodation but upon our arrival we were blown away. The main house and grounds were absolutely breathtaking. The staff were friendly, the food homemade and the hearty breakfast were very tasty. We were there in low season hence just us and another couple were there. Our room was spacious and the bathroom equally as large, the complimentary toiletries smelt heavenly. Although we did think the room needed coffee/tea making facilities and a telephone for emergencies. We met the owner, David, who coincidentally use to work in our neck of the woods back home in the UK. David has renovated his home to a very high standard, I commend him. His five miniature dogs are also a delight. We have no qualms in recommending The Flame Estate, a hidden gem. Would love to return.
