Quinta Funchal Gardens – Adults Only

Spent 7 days at this hotel in April.. We had a late check in and received a nice welcome despite the late out. Our room was a panoramic room with a fantastic view of Funchal and the harbour. Very comfortable and clean. Breakfast was 5 star with a huge variety of meats fruit pastries etc. Coffee was from Nesspreso machines making it easy to get your own espresso. A range of freshly cooked egg dishes were available from the menu served by breakfast staff, omelette being particularly tasty. Waiting staff were very friendly. We availed of lunch from the snack menu once, tasty and fresh. We ate dinner in the dining room on first night, unfortunately not an experience I would like to repeat. I ordered lamb chops and asked for medium cooked but when arrived it was rack of lamb and completely undercooked. Sent back only to be served with another rack again it was raw. Our waiter sent for the manager who was sympathetic and helpful, however by this stage our dinner was ruined. Isabella was very nice and apologetic and looked after us very attentively for the rest of our stay. Very professional. The pool area was lovely, hardly anyone about making it a very relaxing spot. A walk in the beautiful garden is a must do also. Despite being on a hillside above the town, getting up and down was relatively straightforward. Twenty five minutes walk down, or a bus just down from the hotel entrance approx every half hour. €1.90 each way. Taxi back approximately €7.00 or 11 or 92 bus. Wouldn’t recommend walking back. This hotel has recently been taken over by the Barcelona group and are obviously investing in upgrading, the hotel has the potential to become a true 5 star experience. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend for a relaxing visit to the beautiful island of Madeira.

Everything about this hotel is fabulous. We had bedrooms on the ground floor which meant we had a terrace and a little garden to walk out onto in the mornings. The Gardens around the hotel were lovely and offered many different places to sit and enjoy the views and the sunshine. Buffet offered virtually anything you could want for breakfast. But best of all, the staff were excellent - friendly, helpful, caring, efficient, just lovely people. Thank you for a brilliant stay!

The hotel is situated on a hillside above Funchal, with stunning views over Funchal and beyond. It is spacious, bright and welcoming and it is an adults only hotel. We enjoyed this aspect as there was a tranquility about the place. The room(a double), had all that you needed, it too was bright, spacious and airy. The bathroom was fine, but dated and some of the units have seen better days.I am sure now that they are part of the Barcelo Group this will be sorted in time. The facilities are good 3 pools, hot tub, spa gym. We stayed B&B and the breakfast hot/cold buffet was great and catered well for the pan-european clientele, something for everyone plus a glass of champagne if you wanted one. In addition you could request cooked to order eggs,crepes and the like. They have a snack menu that operates throughout the day, it has a reasonable selection. We ate once in the main evening AS Vistas restaurant. The choices were good. This was the only glitch for me, my main course of pork tenderloin was anything but,it was edible (I did mention it to the waiter at the time). The staff at the hotel are fantastic, friendly helpful and attentive,always pleasant.The place is spotlessly clean. Given the steep hills, I would not recommend this for people with mobility issues unless you have a hire car. We normally walked down into Funchal and Taxi back( between 6-7€ from the Avendia de Arriaga taxi rank). In the future,it may be worth considering having a shuttle bus, to ferry people up and down, I have experienced this work well in other similar locations and each guest booked outward/inward times and they paid a small fee. Just a thought. All in all a delightful stay in a good hotel with a peaceful ambiance, great staff, plenty of breakfast choices and panoramic views down to the sea. Great.

A very big thank you to all the staff at Quinta Funchal Gardens. The facilities were amazing and we had everything we needed. Very comfortable room and the view from the balcony was great. We really enjoyed the breakfast buffet each morning and the evening meal was top quality too. All of the staff went the extra mile to make our engagement evening extra special for us, an evening we won't forget. Thank you all again.

We had an amazing two weeks in this hotel. It really had the wow factor in all public areas and our room was bigger and better than we thought it would be. The breakfast was of a really high standard. Our favourite part were the fabulous gardens with lovely private seating areas. The two pools were lovely too and for once we had a holiday where there were plenty of available sunbeds. The only slight negative was walking from the hotel took some getting used to as it is on a narrow road with no pavements initially. The walk down to Funchal takes about 25 mins and longer coming back! But we made good use of the good bus service and very affordable taxis. The advantage of being up the hill is the amazing views the hotel offered

Beautiful 💜 hotel, spotlessly clean with elegant bedrooms with a super sized bed. It is a lovely place to relax with spa facilities onsite. Staff are exceptional, nothing is too much trouble. The restaurant is very good with vegetables grown in the lovely gardens. We had a fabulous week at this gorgeous hotel in Funchai in the stunning beautiful Maderia.
