great hotel with lovely grounds and fantastic birds. unfortunately it was very smokey when i went so the beautiful views were a bit obscured. macaws flying overhead, well maintained trails. helpful staff. fantastic food. clean rooms. quiet.

Spectacular beautiful location on flat land between high mountains. Have to traverse a steep 5 Km dirt road to get here. Our group of birders transferred from our bus to 4x4 vehicles from the lodge. We stayed from two nights. A simple but fine room with a fine bathroom with nice hot water and refillable amenities. Lovely home cooked meals served as a buffet with lots of choice. On the second night there were lots of people for dinner and it felt a bit competitive to get to the food. Beautiful forest trails that crossed a river in a fairly flat setting. They serve their own home grown coffee and i was told ahead of time that they sold that but that did not seem to be evident. My room was not serviced for the second day. Had little interaction with the staff.

The location and hikes here are incredible. It's a paradise and I loved relaxing there. The room was comfortable and we had electricity and hot water. For such a wonderful and special place, it was oddly lacking in hospitality. No one carried our bags to our room for us when we arrived or back to the pickup when we checked out (or even offered). At no meals or any other time did anyone come out and see if we wanted to purchase a cocktail or wine/beer even though there was a menu offering them --we would have liked to order something and especially would have enjoyed a beverage when we were at the fire pit in the evening. And finally, food was surprisingly sparse for tow of our meals. Everywhere else we ate in Bolivia there was an surfeit of food as a sign of hospitality. Here, on the night we didn't get to dinner exactly when it was served, most of the dishes had been diminished to almost empty and were no longer hot. Even more surprising, it turns out that the property hosts/managers had already served themselves and eaten. So as guests, we were left with the slim remains to serve ourselves--none of the dishes were replenished at all. None of these three issues by itself would have caused us to bat an eye and, of course, we still had a wonderful stay. But it really felt cheap to experience the lack of hospitality in a place like this. I would still go back. These are not big detractions from a location as special as this is. A private place with private, clean, beautiful hiking trails and waterfalls to swim in is incredible!

We stayed 4 nights at Refugio Los Volcanos in Amboro National Park. What a stunning and beautiful landscape with the primary forest and tall sandstone buttes. We hiked most of the trails and every one was amazing. We were appreciative to have Rocky as our birdwatching guide. He speaks English and is extremely knowledgeable about the plants and birds. We swam in the river next to the waterfalls every day. The refugio is well managed with a large variety of delicious food served buffet style. Highly recommended to stay at least 3 nights in this beautiful place.

Il Refugio Los Volcanes è situato in una bellissima radura circondata da ripide pareti di arenaria rossa. Ci si sente letteralmente fuori dal mondo, immersi nella pace più assoluta. Le camere, situate in due palazzine di un solo piano, sono molto semplici e spartane. L'unica nota negativa è che in luglio e agosto le temperature notturne sono molto basse e scendono abitualmente sotto zero. Le camere sono prive di riscaldamento e nella sala pranzo è presente unicamente un camino, che è tuttavia insufficiente per riscaldare adeguatamente l'ambiente. Bisogna quindi essere preparati ad avere abbastanza freddo.

Das Refugio besteht aus meheren Häusern. Das Haus mit den Zimmern ist von dem Haupthaus etwa 200 m entfernt. Unser Zimmer war sehr klein, und man hatte keine Ablagemöglichkeiten. Es gibt weder ein Tisch noch Stühle noch eine Leselampe für die Nacht. Man hat uns eine Stehlampe gebracht, als wir das moniert hatten. Diese konnten wir aber nicht gebrauchen. Im Bad fehlten ständig Handtücher und das musste man immer wieder reklamieren. Die Bettwäsche kam mir nicht sauber vor, denn sie war voller Falten als hätte schon einmal jemand darin genächtigt. Das Essen war recht lieblos hergericht. Alles fand in Buffetform statt und war sehr wenig. Es wurde nichts nachgelegt. Ich habe gefragt, ob es sich bei dem Abendbrot um die Vorspeise handelt, worauf ich keine Antwort bekam. An einem Tag gab es veganes Essen. Das war mehr als bescheiden. Einmal wurde Pizza gebacken, diese war sehr gut und auch viel. Das Frühstück war recht übersichtlich. Den Weg am Abend musste man über die Wiese ohne Licht zurücklegen, was nicht einfach war, denn überall lagen Hinterlassenschaften von Tieren. Die Wanderwege waren schlecht gepflegt, und teilweise nicht begehbar. Die Lage des Refugios ist traumhaft und mit ein wenig Engagement hätte man sehr viel daraus machen können.
