Had a lovely weekend break stay at Dufton. It is a charming historic building with features that give it character and warmth. Cannot fault the staff either, both were very welcoming and helpful. It is a shame that the YHA are selling this one. Any buyers out there who want to keep it as a hostel without undertaking unnecessary modern alterations? :-)

Great first hostelling trip with the children (8 and 5) - great facilities in a fabulous location, and all the staff were friendly and helpful. Didn’t take up cooked breakfast option - but looked good! Nearby Dufton Ghyll woods brilliant place to explore with children. Would definitely recommend / go back!

Dufton YHA is a friendly charming hostel above the Eden Valley, nestled by the village green at the base of the Pennine Hills and near to/on at least three national cycle routes not far from Appleby. It's also on the Pennine Way. For guests who wish to cater for themselves , the kitchen is spotless. If you're lucky enough to visit in summer, you can enjoy your meal in the garden where the team have thoughtfully placed a couple of tables. The comfortable lounge is well equipped too, and even has toys for children. When you visit Dufton, do make time for refreshments at the Postbox Pantry (seating outdoors as well as indoors to enjoy the view) Dufton means "the farmstead where the doves were kept". It is mentioned in documents as far back as 1176 and 1291. Dufton has an artists weekend in July followed by the Fellside Agricultural Show & Sheepdog trials in August. The Eden Valley has many interesting walks and villages, including Morland - famed for its annual choristers camp which meets during the first week of August (7 miles from Dufton, half way to Penrith)

A cosy, welcoming hostel in a great location. Friendly helpful team. Well located for walks in the nearby fells, some leaving direct from the village. Pleasant pub across the green. Had an excellent cooked breakfast which set us up for the day (veggie options available).

Great friendly staff who served a lovely meal at a reasonable price. Bed was comfy, shower and toilets clean and the views from this location are stunning. Perfect location for Pennine way. Would definitely reccommend.

Awesome stay with my son and nephew. Great beds, rooms, beautiful old building. Lovely lounge with open fire. Wonderful staff who really get how important it is to provide an oasis of calm and back to old school values.

really nice location. great base to explore high cup nick and further afield. the pub over the road is fantastic, with an amazing beer garden. breakfast was a tenner but it was substantial as well as delicious - you can't grumble when you've only paid eleven quid for a night's stay. please note I've only given the sleep quality a one because my good friend captain serious was snoring like a grizzly bear all night!

2 days of total peace and quiet with my son. Hostel really clean and cosy - rooms and shared facilities were spotless. The atmosphere is calm and welcoming. The location is stunning- great pub opposite and many lively walks from the hostel.

Great staff. Nothing too much trouble. Great breakfast. Decent evening meal. Good bottled beer. Great location 100 yds from pub. Spotlessly clean. Nice homely feel. Even sorted out a local unofficial taxi to run me to station. One of best of very many hostels I have stayed in
