I had a wonderful night's stay at Housemartin. The owners were very friendly and I was very warmly received by them. I especially loved sitting on the veranda and drinking tea early in the morning! The rooms are spacious and homey. I can definitely recommend this guest house.

After we read all the reviews we expected this amazing place in De Rust. We could not sleep during the night as the road was constantly busy with trucks going past and our room was on the main road. There was no mention of the massive road noise. There is no alternative energy/power source and during loadshedding you must open all the windows as to get a draft and cool the room. The interior of the room is dark and dated. The reception was lacking and no checkout. The shower was dirty. There were loose tiles on the toilet floor. The next morning, we could not get away quick enough.

A group of us diverted inland from our walk along the Garden Route and stayed at Housemartin Guest Lodge and it was well worth the visit. We were made to feel most welcome by the owners and staff and the rooms were lovely. We had the opportunity to relax and enjoy a drink beside the pool and enjoyed fabulous home cooked meals during our two night stay.

Very welcoming hosts to this lovely little complex of beautifully appointed rooms situated in traditional bungalows around the communal spaces. Our room was spotlessly clean, tastefully decorated and spacious. The evening meals were delicious with traditional home-cooked dishes for which the host, Theresa is happy to share the recipes. If there was any downside it was that the breakfasts were limited in choice. The village is lovely to stroll around with some quirky shops and the Grumpy Goat pub is well worth a visit. I'd definitely recommend planning in some time to do this and get a feel for the place. Secure parking is available.

Staying in De Rust was a spur-of-the-moment thing, and this guesthouse was a super-lucky choice. The gardens were a big treat, I enjoyed the cheery proprietor who gave good advice about roads and the price was a genuine bargain. Yes, you do hear a bit of road noise at night, but I didn't find it bothersome even though I'm a light sleeper.

Theresa and Jan made us very welcome, and their hospitality was superb. We loved the home-cooked food and the lovely location. The accommodation is spacious and comfortable, and the gardens are beautifully kept. We would definitely recommend a stay here.

Staying at the Housemartin was one of the memorable events on our trip to South Africa. Lovely rooms with great views of the gardens and hills. The highlight was dining in your fabulous dining room. The room was lit by lamps on the table, beautiful crockery and crystal glasses. A meal we will never forget. You are very good hosts.

One of the friendliest receptions ever, to get that after the host is 9 years in business. The food and service were excellent and explained to us with great detail. Special thanks to all the staff that make you feel welcomed.
