We stayed for five nights in Casa Hotel Montalvo in October 2025. It is a wonderful hotel, perfectly located for exploring the Cuenca historic district. My husband and I love to travel and this is one of our favorite places we have ever stayed. The atmosphere is peaceful. The bed and pillows were quite comfortable giving us a good night’s rest. The breakfast room is lovely with beautiful murals, and flowers and birds in the courtyard garden. Every day we looked forward to the fabulous artistic gourmet breakfast. Wilmer and his staff were welcoming and so helpful during our stay. Andres gave us some great ideas. They also arranged a terrific guide for us to visit Cajas National Park which was a fabulous day trip. We highly recommend this hotel. Alan & Angela

I never write, "best hotel in X". How could I possibly know without sleeping in all of them? But it's hard to imagine that there is a better hotel in Cuenca. I travel a lot, and this is among the nicest places I've ever stayed. Room: I stayed in the deluxe king suite, and it was palatial; roomy and beautifully decorated in a quaint but low-key style. The bed was huge and comfortable, and the shower had great water temperature and pressure.  Only one issue: conversations in the hall and front desk were clearly audible, as was traffic noise, though the latter was largely mitigated by keeping the double-paned windows closed. On arrival we were offered the garden suite; though we were genuinely delighted with our room, in retrospect the garden suite might have been a better choice.  Staff: The standout here is Wilmer; owner, factotum and all around great guy. He was helpful, friendly and personable. It's evident that this hotel is extremely well run: every staff member we interacted with was cheerful and friendly. Between the staff, the decor and the light and airy common areas, the overall "vibe" of this hotel is like that of the city itself: welcoming, attractive, peaceful and classy. Food: Breakfasts can only be described as works of art, complete with sculpted fruit plates and marmalades created by Wilmer. Fruit, pastries, eggs of all kinds, a variety of juices and a local dish was available every day. Even the coffee was good, which otherwise has not been our experience in Cuenca. Location: The surrounding neighborhood is lively but quiet, walkable and safe, and convenient for sightseeing. There are many restaurants within easy walking distance. In short, your search for a hotel in Cuenca is over. Book here and I promise you will be very happy.

Cuenca historic center hotel This hotel is beautiful and the staff is so friendly and welcoming. They go above and beyond to ensure that you have an amazing stay. The breakfast is made fresh when you get to the dining area and incorporates traditional cuisine of Cuenca. The area around the hotel is quiet and safe, and is walkable to other locations.

Very unique Colonial furniture. I wish the front desk was more available for questions or they had information about tours available in the area . Breakfast was good.

Beautiful oasis in old Cuenca. Cozy yet elegant and very clean. Friendly staff. Not much English spoken.
