Melia Isla Canela

Peaceful, relaxed, the hotel gives spa vibes! Very much an older audience and a higher end experience. Comfortable beds, large stylish rooms. If you want hustle bustle, this place isn’t for you. I’m baffled by some of the reviews about the food - there are different meats, fish, seafood every night. Beautiful salads and potatoes, different breads and cheeses. All the spirits at the bar are branded and the house wine is delicious, we tried red rose and white. Cocktails lovely and everything served in the right glasses, with lovely heavy cut glasses for all the drinks. It was our first visit but we are already talking about coming back next year. Great find.

Whilst this hotel is in a beautiful location. Stunning scenery, find hotel food lacking especially in the evening can be crowded and bit of a bun fight. Difficult to catch attention to get a drink with meal. Lunch time meal excellent fresh salads etc. Room has a wonderful view. Staff I've encountered are all friendly and attentive. Only been here a day and they started closing pool bar at 08:00pm. Was nice relaxing atmosphere sitting there in the evening. Bar you can use now can get crowded and a little noisy. Not everyone wants that. Did enquire about upgrading to the level but wanted 600Euros no way. Been to the area 6 years ago but in September. If I'd known how quiet it was I wouldn't of booked for 11 nights. Other guests have said the same. Hardly anything open in the area. Couple bars on marina. Won't be rushing back to Hotel. Still have a week , definitely wouldn't have come for so long.

We stayed all inclusive at this hotel for 10 nights. First impression was Wow! The over all aesthetic was lovely and the reception smelt fab! The conservatory dominated the rear of the hotel and has ample seating plus the bar area. The pool areas are clean and well maintained. Bedrooms are modern and fresh and the maid service came in daily. Pros: Clean and pleasant hotel. Good facilities. Beautiful views. Great if you want to do very little/relax!! No rush for sun beds. Hotel towels for beach/pool. Great drink options. Branded drinks charged to room. Always seating available in restaurant. Great selection of food (see cons). Staff generally polite (see cons). AC in rooms works well. Easy reach of ferry to Portugal. Sugar reef bar worth a visit (Marina) Cons: There’s very little to do in the surrounding area. Marina has a small selection of bars and restaurants. Boat over to Isla Christina but there’s nothing much there either. Ayamonte is the nearest town (bus outside hotel) this is where to can catch the ferry to Portugal, there’s nothing much in town apart from the harbour and a few shops/cafes. You can walk along the ***** from one end of the island to the other but it’s just lined with hotels for the most part. Room was not ready for check in at 2pm, we had to return to reception twice before it was. Hotel hallway carpets tired. Lifts a bit dodgy. Food in restaurant luke warm regardless of time!! Bermudes one of the bar staff is just plain rude and ignorant. You need to pay for beds at the beach, this is normal however despite going down there with several other couples the attendant made a beeline for us, ignoring everyone else, gave us a charge ticket, packed up and left!! We raised this at the hotel and the charge was waived. Predominantly Spanish holiday makers. Given very little information, had to figure things out for ourselves. The Level is a gimmick. No light on balcony. Fridge in room only works when cards in slot.

This hotel and staff were excellent from arrival to departure. The room we had was very nice and overlooked the estuary and sea. The only downside was no light on the balcony, but this is a minor moan Food was presented very well and always plenty of variety, I love seafood, so i was in my element , breakfast also had plenty of choice. The facilities for guests include a gym ️‍♂️ with updated equipment and a beautiful pool. There is an adult area with its own pool and is very peaceful. The main area for families is also excellent, with plenty going on throughout the day for guests. Night time entertainment was a mix that all the family could enjoy, jazz, circus, and magic acts. Drinks and bars are well stocked with well-known brands . Thanks to Carlos and staff for making our stay a memorable one.

We visited Melia Isla Canela first time in august 2025. Have been in Melia hotels before and you can trust the quality. We stayed in room 2005 and the views were amazing. Didn’t get much sun in balcony which was very good and our balcony wasn’t overlooked at all. Two things we like as a couple. We upgraded to Level room and it is 100% worth it. Gives you access to level lounge where you find nice refreshments throughout the day. Especial thank you to Alejandro and Ana who were always there to help. Fridges were always stocked up and air condition working to cool down. Our big thank you goes to Olatz who was always there and happy to help. She was so calm and smiley every day and made reassurance everyone was having a good time. Melia Isla Canela is located in a beautiful setting close to Marina, beach and canal (make sure enjoy sunrises and sunsets) The food in buffet restaurant was always fresh and plenty to choose from. We preferred breakfast in Casa Nostra which was more quieter and included with level room. To enjoy it indoors or outdoors on balcony. Another big thank you goes to house keepers. As soon as we left for breakfast out room was serviced with fresh towels etc and there was never any problems. We will return for sure!

We returned yesterday from this fabulous hotel and are missing it already. The hotel is beautiful, spotlessly clean and the refurbishment has really made improvements. We were standard customers (not level) and found the service excellent. Food is plentiful, well presented and offers a great choice. The staff in all areas are amazing and so helpful. It is a quiet area but well positioned for access to the working harbour, beach and promenade. It’s a beautiful authentic Spanish resort and the local people make you feel very welcome and even try to help you improve your Spanish. The hotels strength is truly the staff who cannot do enough for you. We are already looking at when we can return.
