An incredible overnight stay with someone very special. Staff customer service second to none especially the 2 ladies on the breakfast service who went above and beyond with providing the best experience. Especially as they had a wedding to follow a busy breakfast service

We went for Sunday lunch which was excellent. One of the party was partially deaf with hearing aids and wanted to say how much the absence of background music was appreciated as it meant that she could enjoy and join in withconversation. Thank you for providing such sa helpful a**osphere.

We only came for food but was not impressed by the attitude of the staff, we felt like we was intruding on there day, we went for the turkey dinner and the food was avarage. I don't think it was acceptable for staff to tut and complain when we ask for a table and then for the dirty table to wiped over as, we even heard one staff member when walking away from another table "I've only got one pair of hands haven't I" we spoke with the Manager who was brilliant and he did say they all had a team meeting this morning and he apologises, I hope they can turn it around as we was here a year and half ago and it couldn't be faulted.

We had dinner for three in the Terrace Bar on Saturday 17th February 2024. The food standard was average, we ordered a dressed salad with our meal, it never came plus my daughter was asked if she wanted extra sauce for her burger, she asked for ketchup and that didn’t arrive either. The servers were friendly and apologetic and my daughter got a free drink to compensate. Overall, we were not overly impressed, it’s a longtime since we ate here and we won’t be back in a hurry.

My husband and I had Sunday lunch here yesterday, we opted for the large portions which were scarcely an average size. There was a very large Yorkshire pudding placed on top of the entire meal; Yorkshire puddings were invented as a cheap starter to a meal to fill you up, so perhaps the hotel is working on this principle. The meal was actually very nice but we failed to understand why roast beef was not accompanied by beef gravy, it was flavoured with curry spices reminiscent of mulligatawny soup. The deserts were lovely (creme brulee and cheesecake). Wainwright bitter made the nicest shandy ever. My husband paid at the bar and we set off homeward bound when after a short while he commented that £95.40 was rather steep for what we'd had. I checked the bill. We'd been overcharged by £20. Husband did not have his reading glasses with him so could not check the bill before paying. We returned to the hotel where the money was quickly refunded.

Went for a family celebration meal, staff were wonderful nothing was a problem food was amazing, staff went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. Made a special 70th birthday meal a lovely night

We stayed in a suite for two nights for our anniversary. The room was beautiful with stunning views of the river. The breakfast was delicious and very well cooked. Thanks to the reception staff for organising the flowers in the room. Would definitely recommend and we will return. All the staff were very friendly.

We stayed for one night and requested a dog friendly room prior to arrival. The room was on the ground floor, very clean and spacious with a river view. We asked where we were allowed to eat and drink with our small dog. We could only have drinks in the conservatory (which was locked for the whole of our stay) and breakfast/food could only be taken in our room. Despite that we had an excellent stay, a great sleep and a hearty breakfast. We will stay again.

An attractive hotel in a charming town with attentive and friendly staff and really well equipped rooms, but let down by poor food. A short stay was redeemed by a lovely room but the cooking was very poor indeed. an overly long menu probably did not help the kitchen and was quite unnecessary. Most customers would rather have a short, regularly changing menu with carefully cooked and appetising dishes. Some of the portions were ridiculous - 5 or 6 slices of smoked salmon as a starter ??? Having eaten here on numerous occasions in the past we were surprised how the standard had dropped - possibly short staffed in the kitchen but the over long menu will not help that problem.
