It is impossible to capture everything that is excellent about The Arches as it keeps on giving. Guests have the feeling that everything there was prepared specially for them, such is the privacy and freedom they experience. There are walks to the lake, a full-sized tennis court (that city folk don’t have to queue or pay for), delightfully imaginative crazy golf, pool table, darts, viewing deck, water fountain, pristine flower beds and more, all on private land, raised high above the surrounding countryside so that guests’ thirst for beauty is sated by the most stunning and breath-taking views in all directions. The hard-working owners of the guesthouse maintain the grounds with meticulous attention to detail, with guests’ comfort being given the uppermost consideration. They have cleverly separated both guesthouse and farm so that although one can spy cows and free range chickens in the distance, the farm area is non-intrusive and does not diminish in any way one’s enjoyment of the house and grounds, while yet being at our disposal to roam through at will. One of our delights was to see the owner going to collect freshly laid eggs for our breakfast, which went a long way toward undoing egg allergies caused by mass produced factory-laid eggs in the big cities. Another was seeing the carefully tended vegetable beds and later tucking in to delicious homemade brown bread and scones, smothered in jams made from home-grown fruit. Still another was the obvious a"moooo"-sement of the curious cows who played spectator to our tennis games, and were mooooo-ved sufficiently to cheering us on. Ever-giving and caring describes the gracious landlady who went far beyond the stipulated bed and breakfast by thinking about our possible needs and offering suggestions for how to make the most of our stay, right down to the best place to get a ninety-nine (an ice-cream cone that should only be bought in Ireland), as if she had read our minds. She was also unstintingly generous with her time, considering how much work is involved in maintaining such high standards of cleanliness and hospitality. Ever-giving finally describes the irreplaceable images and experiences we took with us, as I am sure that the delightful well of memories created for us at The Arches will be dipped into at will, for some time to come. We thrived both physically and mentally. The Arches is a breath of fresh air, literally. Thank you from our hearts. C & R
