Selectum Family Resort Varadero

I am the tour leader of Canada. This is my second time come to Family Selectum Resort. I love the hotel because it very new its built it in 2023 and the service is super good. Specially one of the gorgeous girl her name is🌹 Yoslaisys Mella 🌹 has best customer service ever. Everytime i ask for her help she will do it immediately and reslove my problem in the hotel with my group. Thank you so much Yoslaisys Mella 💕 You have the best customers service in this hotel for sure 😘

Amazing time!!! Beautiful hotel with great food choices. Animation staff, Jennifer, Yoyo, Jon Can los, Andreas were amazing! Clean, pools were fantastic, beach was nice but ocean a bit rocky upon entering. I was told that they are working on it during the low time as they’re only 1 year old hotel. You won’t be disappointed! Just remember to take nespresso pods for your coffee in room as they don’t have any at the moment. Maria and Alejandro at the la Terraza coffee bar are super amazing! All the staff is fantastic! I will definitely return!

This was our second year going to this resort and it never disappoints Raul really goes over and above for all the tourists and all the staff are so nice and great at what they do the hotel is spotless and Enrique and lala in the jazz bar are so professional , I highly recommend this resort and we hope to be back next year

Where do I start ..... well here goes ..... I arrived at this hotel at 7pm on Wednesday 3rd April after a 10 hour flight from Manchester UK. Booked this resort with Loveholidays . I was booked to stay 14nights and my wife who is Cuban and lives in UK with me was coming to stay last 4 nights as she was visiting family in Holgefore we returned to uk My wife came to the hotel to make sure I checked in OK. This is where the nightmare started. On going to reception to check in after showing my reservation and booking details , I was told abruptly by receptionist that , I would need to pay before I could access my room . As I had already paid the hotel through Loveholidays , I said sorry but I have paid and showed them the receipts ect , receptionist said maybe so , but the reservation was not paid by the holiday company or a third party agency in Cuba . As my wife was there she spoke to them in Spanish , but to no avail, they were not letting me check in unless I paid again . I contacted Loveholidays and was put through to to an agent somewhere in far East , ( ended up coming home to £200 mobile phone bill ) . They spoke with reception desk this we on all evening . I was then approached by the most arrogant , insulting , offence and downright rude duty Manager , sorry cannot remember his name but small white grey haired guy with a mullet . He kept telling me I needed to pay and pay by credit card , which I told him I did not have . He kept saying that the holiday company would not pay and that they were liars , and he treated me like a criminal and would not listen to reason , and one point he was treating me with Cuban Police . He wjust would not listen to me or my wife . Anyway he went off duty leaving me no further forward . By the this time its after midnight , after many calls to my holiday company , they assured that the bill would be paid for , but then the hotel would not accept the company in Cubas credit card . By this time I'm totally exhausted by flight and the situation , also my wife had to leave as she had a bus to catch at 5.30am from Matanzas. Eventually the hotel let me in at 3.30am , but took my passport as hotel was still not paid for . At 4.30am Cuban time I managed to contact main office of Loveholidays in UK, and was assured it would be sorted out . I went down to reception again atv8am to be told it was still not resolved and I would need to vacate room by 11am and pay $150 US dollars for use of room . I was distraught by this pont , Eventually I received call from Loveholidays saying bill was not paid at 1pm , and to go back to reception . I got my passport back ect in front of this manager who was still insisting that bill was not paid and holiday company were liars . I had to walk away from him as his arrogance and manners were disgraceful . Now onto hotel , room was very nice , food not good , staff not very nice or approachable , pools very nice , queue s for eve

We just return back from this amazing resort. We had a wonderful vacation. The food was great we always can find something to eat. My two years old loved pasta, chicken. The ice cream was so delicious. Rooms were everyday well cleaned thank you. Beach: yes, did have some rocks, but just go to the right side closer to dock and it is nice and sandy. entreatment team is the best: a specially big thank you to Jennifer and Yan Carlos who made our days in the pull so fun and show as nightlife at varadero.❤️❤️❤️❤️. Thank you so much Alex at lobby bar and Aleksey at pool bar for delicious cocktails. We really enjoyed our time at this resort 🤗

The hotel was decent, pretty modern. I'm not going to lie, the beach was pretty bad. A lot of rocks, not a lot of space compared to other resorts I've been in the past. We we're 3 man in our 20's and we only had 2 water bottles (500ml) per day. Although, the food in the restaurants under reservation was pretty good. Also a really good point about this place is the personal. Super friendly!! Special shoutout to Rodny, Amanda and Alex! They we're always fun to be around! They gave us the biggest highlights of our trip. In conclusion pretty good resort for a family but if you are young and want to have fun maybe not the perfect place, but still had fun!

In reading other reviews, I was thinking 'are we at the right resort'? Our experience was not great at all. I have been to several other resorts in Cuba, so know what to typically expect with food etc., but this resort just did not measure up. The only positives are the beach and the hotel building is nice and new. Upon arrival, only 1 person was available to check people in. Waited almost an hour. They had 1 bell boy to help people checking in with their bags to their rooms. After waiting an additional 30 mins for him to return from helping last person, I said forget it and decided to find my room myself, which wasn't too difficult. Upon arriving to my room I was looking forward to a nice cold beer after my long trip. There was no beer or water in the mini fridge and I also only had 1 towel. My dad was arriving on a later flight, so wanted to get a towel for him. I tried calling front desk numerous times and no one ever answered so I went back down to front desk. I was told they do not stock the mini fridge with beer and I would get 1 bottle of water a day. An additional towel would not be available until the next day (ended up taking 2 days). This is the first resort I have ever been to that did not supply beer in the mini fridge and had to limit water. Very disappointing from the get go. My dad arrived several hours after me, he checked his bed and the sheets had blood stains. We again tried called front desk and no one answered. We went to front desk to ask them to change the sheets and they said they would within the hour. We went to buffet for supper and went back to room several hours later to go to bed and the bed sheets had not been changed. Again, tried calling down with no answer. We gathered up the bloody sheets and took them to the front desk where we were told someone would get to when they had time. They were not nice, or apologetic. A nice attitiude would have gone a long way in this situation. After some arguing, they said they would send someone within the hour, which did eventually happen. To get a beverage, you had to stand in a line at the "lobby bar". This is the main bar and was always busy. Average wait time was 20 mins. There was no menu or drink list, so just stuck with what I know, cervesa and margaritas. Several nights there were not enough chairs for us to sit down so had to go elsewhere to consume our beverage, oftentimes on a lounge chair by the pool. A few days in we discovered the "Jazz Bar" a few doors down from the "lobby bar" and this had a shorter line usually, which was good. The food is what you typically expect in Cuba, however the experience of getting the food at the buffet was not good. Prior to opening for a meal service, everyone lines up at the buffet doors outside and when they open, its a mad dash. People pushing and shoving in front, trying to get to the food. The food signs, indicating what each of the foods actually were, were illegible, very faded, so not 100% certain what we were eating

If you are planning a trip to Varadero Cuba this is the Resort to stay at. My husband and I just returned from a 7 day stay and have nothing but great things to stay. First, the food is amazing!! It was difficult for us to not overeat at this resort between the buffet, snack bar, and restaurants you will find things you’ll like. We highly recommend the Cuban restaurant!! One thing to note is that they do overcook the meat. If you are particular about this, then you can wait in line and have the chef cook it in front of you. Additionally, there are a variety of foods, we recommend trying new things, you’ll likely find something you love this way. Something we didn’t like had to do with the other guests at the buffets taking too much food and not eating it (be considerate of the country you are in and shortages of food)// also other guests butting in lines (be considerate of others). The beach was gorgeous!!! We’ve seen a lot of people complain about it being rocky when you get in. Yes there were some rocks… but it wasn’t to the point where it was something that we were upset about. Tip: there is a pole in the ocean which lines up with the flag in the sand, we found that it was clear in this area. If you are that particular about the beach, then take the $5 shuttle and you can hop off to go to another area of the beach. The staff were very friendly, and amazing!! We do not speak Spanish, and many staff do not speak fluent English- despite the language barrier things were excellent. Tips: Cubans lifestyles are different than ours - they appear to take time and appreciate life- if you have to wait for things, just be patient and grateful for the time and experience it’s worth it. Tip!! Bring American $1 bills (they do not want Canadian coins or Pesos). We left tips in our room everyday and it was always clean (bedding was not changed the entire week- but we are not picky about this). The resort itself is gorgeous and very well kept! Excursions: we recommend the Bus (Jeep) Safari (this was an incredible experience and about $80 per person). They pick you up from the resort and take you to do the following all in the same day: snorkeling at a reef, museum in Matanzas City, Farm where you get to try out some different types of grown foods (bananas/ honey/ sugar cane/ pinneapple/coconut/etc) *get the mojito here*, then you have lunch at the farm which was delicious *drinks included*, horseback riding (or you can ride a bull lol), pressed espresso, then you can drive speed boats down the river, lastly they take you to a cave to swim! (My husband and I joked that this is the perfect excursion for people with ADHD- we had an incredible time and gorgeous photos to look back on). Overall we highly recommend this resort!!

The resort is really nice , the people friendly . The beach wasn't the best it drops off before entering water almost 2 feet ( I think they said there was a storm )and there is a bit of coral or rock in the water , this year was the worst time i got eat with sand fleas! I don't think the rooms were cleaned the whole week we were there .We had a job to close the door of our room and the handle was falling off. There was never any drinks or beer in our fridge the whole week we were there!!!! The food was not good ,I'm not a picky eater by no means I would eat almost anything but there days wit no breakfast items ,I didn't see any potato the whole week , if you like black beans and rice and chicken you will enjoy because that was what we had all week .I didn't see any fish at all there was squid and octopus but I couldn't eat it . Everyone says that's Cuba but this was the worst so far. The evening shows was not what we are used to ,no plays or stuff like the other resorts.
