Betikure Parc Lodge

A real find. A relatively late minute change saw us spend a night here and we’d wished it had been more. Built about ten years ago by the current owner, the lodge is a series of paired villas stretching up a grassy valley above the restaurant. Options include a villa with outdoor garden and spa or a simple villa. They’re comfortable and well appointed with views down the valley. The main lodge is built around a pool surrounded by bush with an open air restaurant under a living roof. The menu is taken from a choice of the one entrée, main and dessert that changes nightly. But from looking at those around us, you can obviously order what you want ahead of time. The main dish on our night was the traditional French cod dish Brandabe de Bec de Cane-Gratuite. A cheesy dish with dried cod and really good. Bourail is close to the coast and a variety of activities, including a beach with nesting turtles and the restored Fort Téremba. There is good access to hiking and cycle trails from the lodge. Not too far away is the Parc des Grandes Fougères (Giant Tree Ferns.) The one slight caution is the road access which is narrow even by New Caledonian standards. Take care on the single-lane roads. The staff were all friendly and welcoming. We will definitely be back for a longer stay and it was our first choice to go back to when it looked like we might have had our return flights home cancelled due to cyclone activity. Highly recommended.

Très agréable séjour dans un lieu qui se veut fidèle à sa réputation. L'hôtellerie reste excellente, dans un cadre bien entretenu ; le chef fait preuve d'inventivité, et l'accueil demeure un des atouts de l'établissement. A recommander pour une parenthèse de quelques jours...
