Ski or snowboard the Alpine slopes, snowshoe or cross country the Nordic area. A great getaway from the crowded I-70 ski areas!- Indian Peaks Wilderness Area is a 15 minute drive west. 76,000 acres of untamed wilderness. Access the Colorado back country up to and over the Continental Divide. No motor vehicles or bikes allowed, a true Rocky mountain experience! Winter access not for the faint of heart:) but rewarding to say the least.- Mud Lake/Caribou Ranch Open Space trail systems are within walking distance. A wonderful system of loops and some of the most level trails you'll find in the Rockies. Enjoy hiking, biking, cross country skiing and snowshoeing. Ice skating is allowed on Mud Lake. Wildlife is abundant, moose, elk, deer, and fox are all common sights to the attentive hiker. Get lucky and spy a bobcat, lynx, bear or mountain lion!- 30 minute drive South to the casino towns of Central City and Blackhawk- RTD bus Park and Ride is 1/4 mile away. Access to Boulder, Denver and Eldora Mountain Resort! It's a downhill, under 10 minute walk from the apt to town. You need not walk along the highway, there is a shortcut path by the SE corner of the Community Center parking lot. Plan a little longer time walking UPHILL from town or the RTD(bus lot) to the apt.- The driveway is steep and during winter 4WD or AWD and snow tires are A MUST to make it up. That being said, it is south facing and snow/ice melts off quickly on sunny days. There is public parking across the highway at the Community Center and you can walk up and/or I can help shuttle your luggage up.- We do our best to maintain the driveway and walkway free of snow and ice but it will be slippery at times. By making a reservation you accept risk of any/all personal injury or vehicle damage due to weather conditions.- Take note; Winter can be windy. It's not unusual for sustained 50mph wind for an entire day. Snowstorms can be heavy. It's not unusual to get multiple feet in a day. Winter also has many calm, beautiful blue sky days, especially following a storm. Be prepared for any and all weather conditions!- Altitude sickness affects some people. Drink LOTS of water! Take it easier than normal with physical activity and alcohol consumption. To use the toilet, fill the toilet basin with water with a half pull on the leaver before use. A full pull flushes and empties the basin. Continue to let the water run a while to push the waste through the plumbing.Trap all food going down kitchen sink and dispose of in trashcan. No harsh chemicals like bleach, toilet bowl cleaner or Drain-o down the plumbing system. This is a septic system and it functions on bacteria being present to break things down.Please keep in mind at 9000ft above sea level some of our creature comforts are limited. It makes for a great opportunity to unplug! The internet service in Nederland can go down during big storms for bits of time. We have power outages often in Nederland but they generally are remedied quickly. These things are out of our control. The Tiny will continue to have heat as there is both an electric source and a gas source for heat and there are multiple flashlights available. The shower in the Tiny is not meant for long showers. We have duel small hot water heaters to provide hot water so guest should be able to take a warm but short shower. Please note the Tiny House is not suited for individuals with limited mobility or balance challenges. Thoroughly updated with decorative concrete floors, low VOC wool carpet & paint. Designer kitchen with hickory & shoji cabinets which compliment the granite/quartz tiles and copper edging, stainless appliances. Kitchen fully stocked with cooking and baking essentials, dishes, glasses etc. There are 3 eating spaces, bar in the kitchen, and breakfast table in the atrium, with separate formal dining room. The main floor also contains a full bath off the mud room. Upstairs there are 3+ bedrooms and two full bathrooms. The master suite features custom lighting, double ended soaking tub, with separate walk in shower and marble floors. The top floor is magical with 3rd quiet bedroom, and entertainment room with custom balcony skylight. Best views in the house! Outdoors there are decks on 3 levels with gorgeous mountain views. No pets are allowed to stay at the lodge.Be aware that we have limited cell service at the lodge, though phones with WiFi calling should work, and we provide a landline for guest use.Sky Mountain Lodge was designed and built to be a “passive solar” house, meaning that the main source of heat is the sun! The secondary heat source is the wood stove; which when running regularly, heats the whole house quite well. That said, guests may not want to maintain a fire during their stay. So we’ve provided several individual space heaters for night time use and cloudy days.The lodge is located at 8,300 feet above sea level and altitude sickness is a possibility at this elevation.We are in bear country! Nestled into the earth in the Rocky Mountain foothills above Boulder, Colorado, The Chaled (Chalet + Shed) is a sunny, relaxing hideaway. It’s located on expansive land bordering the National Forest with abundant wildlife, yet just 12 minutes to downtown Boulder and 17 minutes to the ski town of Nederland. It has high-speed internet, off-street parking, mature fruiting apple and apricot trees, a small lawn and garden, and a stone patio and outdoor dining area.You'll have the 350 square foot cabin and its private yard to yourself. It's situated on a quiet, paved road with little traffic and is part of a larger property with a single family home in full-time residence with two kids. (The main house and one neighboring house are approximately 100 yards away.) A south-facing window seat is always the favorite spot to read or watch wildlife, and the open floor plan includes comfortable chairs, a dining table with chairs, and a fully equipped kitchen. The bedroom is quiet and cozy and has ample storage space. The bathroom includes tub and shower. The outdoor dining table with umbrella, grill, and outdoor seating overlook the property and are delightful for outdoor meals and entertaining.Guest accessThe cabin is easily accessible from Boulder via paved roads. One parking space is provided in front of it. AWD or 4WD is not necessary most of the year, but in the winter, if snow comes down, it is recommended to get up and down the mountain roads safely.Other things to note:The cabin has high-speed internet and cell service, depending on your carrier (AT&T seems to work best up here.) The WiFi is fast, and to use your cell phone for phone calls/texts, simply turn on “Wi-Fi calling”. Please note that there is no AC or TV. It’s a 5-minute drive to Betasso Mountain Preserve, a Boulder County-maintained trail system for running and biking with 3-mile and 7-mile loops. In the winter you’re about 30 minutes from skiing at Eldora Resort.
