Lovely stay at The Royal Oak, OK it’s a little bit tired looking in parts but the staff were wonderful and the room was lovely and clean. Drinks and biscuit selections in the room was great and the breakfast was GOD tier, all local and fresh cooked to order. Evening meal was great and there was a lovely warmth from the serving staff. We 100% will return.

Excellent location and staff all very friendly and helpful. Booked for a birthday celebration and we were 'upgraded' to a superior room. This isn't the cheapest hotel and I would have not been happy to pay superior room room rate for where we stayed. We overlooked the back of the kitchen and the ventilation system is very noisy, blowing food smells into the room. There was a super king sized bed, very comfy but the bathroom was very tired and needed updating. An old corner bath, cracked inside with the outer cover falling off and the worst shower I've seen. It was one row of jets, about 20cm long which sprayed a very narrow stream of water, a bit like a garden sprinkler. The large tap underneath meant we couldn't even stand underneath the shower. The cold water also felt hot at times which can't be good from a water safety perspective. Hope the leigonella checks are up to date. This is a very busy hotel, which needs to start investing in the bathrooms. We have previously stayed here in a four poster room and that bathroom was also very old. Evening food good, but breakfast hot offering very average, pre prepared scrambled eggs etc and a very limited continental buffet.
