We stayed at the newly refurbished Parkhead Hotel for 4 nights while visiting an old friend in the area and can highly recommend this hotel. The room was spacious with a good sized double bed, bathroom with a great power shower, heated towel radiator together with a very warm self controlled radiator in the room, which we appreciated as we stayed during a very cold spell of weather. The staff are friendly and helpful. The food is highly rated. Breakfast includes a cooked option of Eggs Benedict, Eggs Royale, Eggs Florentine etc all cooked and presented beautifully. The food in the evening also deserves a special mention, especially the After 8 chocolate cheesecake with mint ice-cream! The hotel is part of the Auckland Project which is located nearby and very well worth a visit. So much history on display here as far back as William the Conqueror and the Prince Bishops of Durham. Auckland Palace is a must visit experience culminating in the Butcher’s Kitchen, a delightful restaurant/cafe. After visiting the Mining Museum, you can understand the pride the people of Bishop Auckland have in their regeneration project which is developing all the time.
