We've just finished a long weekend in the Luxe Spa Suite, and I'm basing my review on my expectations of a venue charging £750 a night for 2 people. Other rooms were cheaper, but I think they started at £475, so it's still an expensive place. Firstly the positives, the venue is beautiful, and the grounds are lovely. The spa is also wonderful, and the various facilities top class. But there are a few instances of the place looking tired (mismatched carpets were pointed out on arrival by the staff, as they're "getting around to changing them"), our room has one stain on the carpet, and a flickering light. But it was very clean, and well presented, and the direct access to the spa was wonderful. The biggest problem was, sadly, the service and attention to detail. The staff were mostly very friendly and enthusiastic, but seemed a bit out of their depth. A few examples including the mortified and very apologetic receptionist who forgot to have our room serviced one evening, and then had to quicky do it herself, the bar staff who repeatedly forgot requests for water with other drinks, the restaurant water who got confused and tried to deliver EVERY starter along with a selection of tapas plates and then asked us what they should do with them. And at the more extreme end, my partner went to that complimentary coffee area on Sunday morning at 9am (coffee pods hadn't been topped up on our room) and found that someone had been sick in the bin for used pods, and it hadn't been spotted over night. And the senior member of staff telling us rather abruptly at breakfast on Sunday morning (after we'd commented about a long wait and others being served first) that this "happens every Sunday, alas we get busy and only have one chef", as if this repeated problem was out of anyone's control. Would I recommend Homewood? Yes, if you've money to burn and are happy with mid range service. But did it give us the weekend we'd been expecting for this price, sadly that's a no.
