expectation vs reality

Klassad som 4-stjärnigt hotell, men jag skulle ge det Högst 3 stjärnor i dagens skick. Den har dock potential att få 4 stjärnor genom några åtgärder. + Städning i rummet var väldigt bra + Poolområdet hölls väldigt rent + Utomhusytorna att lägga sig och njuta var välskötta + Vänlig personal i restaurang och städning + Frukt- och dryckrummet som kan nyttjas av all inklusive gäster - Brist på information vid incheckning. Väskorna blev tacksamt burna till rummet, men vi fick ingen introduktion till relevant information om hotellet. - Rummen är rätt slitna. Ytskikten behöver fräschas upp och vissa möbler bytas ut. - Badrummen behöver ses över. Vatten rinner utanför duschytan till hela badrumsgolvet och vattenflödet i dusch och kran ostadiga. (Dock var badrummet stort och ett plus med olika hyllplan att ställa saker på). - Maten höll tyvärr inte måttet. Förvånad över tidigare kommentarer att maten skulle vara "fantastiskt". Det kan förvisso vara en smaksak, men vi åt betydligt bättre och godare mat på andra ställen under vistelsen i Sri Lanka. - Personalen i restaurangen var som sagt vänliga, men tyvärr inte tillräckligt tränade inom service. Ingen personlig kritik mot individerna (som försökte göra så gott de kunde), men det är en management misskötsel, som inte utbildat sin personal tillräckligt väl. Det var bara en person i restaurangen som tydligt visste hur man skulle hantera service, då märkte man genast skillnad på hur "det bör vara". - Den mest provocerande situationen skedde vid utcheckningen. Först och främst bemötta av två nonchalanta receptionister som småfnittrade (av någon oklar anledning) under tiden betalningen skulle ske och sa knappt "Tack och Hejdå". Inte nog med det, det fanns ingen möjlighet att boka Taxi via hotellet. Jag kunde inte tro mina öron, så jag pratade med en annan person som kunde engelska lite bättre, men han bekräftade samma sak, dvs att de inte kan boka Taxi åt oss. "Det är dåligt med kommunikation härifrån, vi måste skicka våra bilar från Colombo, om ni ska ha Taxi". Ok, men detta kanske ni skulle ha informationerat om tidigare? Tyvärr riktigt uselt, provocerande och direkt chockerande. Nej, det finns en hel del att jobba på, på det här hotellet, från management håll. Se till att först och främst träna upp receptionister på hur man tar hand om gäster. Restaurangpersonalen var som sagt vänligt inställda, de behöver bara lite utbildning. I dagsläget får hotellet högst 2,5*, men den har som sagt potential att bli 4 om man tar tag i saker att förbättra delar av hotellet.

Great stay. Excellent food from chef Gamage and the team. Rooms are in good condition. Great space in the garden and lot for children.

We had the pleasure of spending a few days at the Mermaid Hotel & Club right after an intensive sightseeing tour with one of the Polish travel agencies. It was the perfect rest for us, and we can sincerely confirm that the hotel deserves a high rating! From the first moment, we felt safe, comfortable, and surrounded by kindness. The rooms are well-maintained, clean, and clearly have been renovated and modernly furnished. Although it is not a five-star Hilton, the space is very interestingly arranged, and nothing was missing. What positively surprised us was the well-thought-out functional layout of the hotel. The complex is clearly divided into two zones: The Relaxation Zone: Featuring a pool, sun loungers, and a beautiful view of the palm trees and the ocean – ideal for lazy downtime. The Recreation and Activity Zone: Dedicated to guests looking for more than just relaxation. This area includes a SPA, a separate pool for water polo, a gym, and courts for squash, badminton, or ping-pong. Everything is within one complex and organized in a truly brilliant way! However, the biggest asset of the hotel is its staff, who create an exceptionally warm atmosphere. The service is always smiling, kind, and ready to help or chat. They happily engaged in conversations with us, tried to learn some Polish words, and made sure we lacked nothing. We would especially like to thank and greet the gentlemen: Saman, Ishen, Mahinda, and Chandana. Their care was exceptional – they always approached us with a smile during meals, asking if we needed anything. Even when I had minor stomach problems, they immediately tried to help and advise, which was extremely kind and showed their professionalism. We recommend the Mermaid Hotel & Club to everyone looking for relaxation in beautiful surroundings and valuing authentic, heartfelt service. We will definitely be back!

The hotel is truly excellent — beautiful views, a well-maintained property, and a perfect atmosphere for relaxation. The food is tasty and varied, and the staff take care of every detail, making the entire stay very comfortable. My highest appreciation goes to the reception team, especially DINUSHIKA and DILUNI. These two made a remarkable difference during my stay. Dinushika and Diluni were exceptionally professional — always helpful, always kind, and always ready to respond to any question with clarity and confidence. Nothing was ever left unresolved. Their support, warm attitude and constant smiles created a welcoming atmosphere that truly stood out. I would also like to give special thanks to SAMAN from the restaurant — a genuine polyglot who even speaks a bit of Polish. Saman consistently checked if I had everything I needed during meals, which was especially important for me as a solo traveller. He was attentive, caring, and incredibly quick with service and plate clearing, making every visit to the restaurant smooth and pleasant. This is a hotel worth returning to — not only for the place itself, but above all for people like Dinushika, Diluni and Saman, who create such an exceptional and welcoming atmosphere.

I had a great experience at Hotel Mermaid. The rooms were clean and comfortable, the atmosphere was peaceful, and the staff were very friendly and helpful throughout my stay. The food was delicious and there were plenty of options to choose from. The pool area and surroundings were well maintained, making it a perfect place to relax. Overall, it was a very enjoyable stay and I would happily visit again!
