Nice place that I’d stay at again. It was a little chilly and I couldn’t get heat going in my room, but that didn’t stop me from having a pleasant stay. Very convenient to everything Avalon has to offer.

Hotel is clean and staff friendly. The only thing is need upgrate heating/cooling system, the electricity shut down multiple times due to not able to handling portable heaters.

This property has very little to recommend it compared with other options on the island. I have been coming to stay on Catalina at least once a year every year for close to 20 years. I’ve stayed at most hotels on the island and am a repeat visitor to hotels I like. I won’t be coming back here. The room itself is very small and not suited to more than one guest. The best thing about this hotel is the porch on the second floor. The biggest issue I had was with the customer service. We stayed on New Year’s Eve with a check out New Year’s Day. We had an amazing time at the ****** ballroom gala and were a little the worse for wear in the morning and checked out 30 minutes late. I’ve checked out late in hotels before and never had an issue. In my experience there’s usually a little leeway as long as you aren’t abusively late. Only 30 minutes over after the biggest late night holiday of the year does not deserve the punitive $30 late charge they informed us was due when we checked out but had not been informed of prior. The excuse that, “the staff need to clean the rooms” is pathetic. This hotel does not have that many rooms and at only 30 minutes over, they weren’t waiting for us or the other people they charged late fees to. If they were that fast we could have checked in earlier than we did. Management clearly puts “nickel and dime-ing” their customers above customer service. As a hotel, it’s fine. After this treatment, I won’t return or recommending to any of my friends.

We liked the bed. It was very comfortable. Breakfast was non-existant at best. Oatmeal was offered - but not the bowl (seriously). Pancakes offered yet the machine was out of order. Raw pancake batter - yum! I ended up with an old granola bar - every day for five days. In the room, the heater did not work. They must have known this as a little space heater was in the closet. Fortunately this did work. Of some concern was the flickering ceiling light fixture. I hate to think of the possibilities of a very old 4-level wood structure with bad wiring. Otherwise, well.....

It was very minimal - bed and shower. No bath tub- would have been nice to be able to take a bath after the hike. Very old property. Bath sink didn’t have a stopper to fill with water. That would have been nice too as I had to wash couple of clothes after the hike.

The hotel was clean and not hard to find. The balcony views are beautiful. It was easy to get around town from the hotel. The staff was helpful.

The property advertises itself as having a jacuzzi - the jacuzzi is nonoperational. It advertises breakfast as Kona coffee, tea, and light breakfast: the Kona coffee is more like brown water, there's no tea, and there was no attendant to show us how the pancake machine works (if indeed it does work). They also left a message on my phone the day of our arrival. I tried to call them back (3x) and I messaged them on the ******* app, with no success. I was quite worried. But it must have been simply to tell me that their front desk closes at 6 pm, even though daily boats to Avalon arrive at 7:10 pm. We called the "emergency" number and got our room key. It's a cute hotel, but we are in a basement room without views.

What we liked about this place is that the lady at the front desk was very friendly, the room was nice, it was old but they made it nice. The bed was not great, it sagged in the middle which made it terrible for sleeping but all in all it was good, walkable, etc. one thing though, the lady and the front desk was very nice and friendly but they guy who was an employee was rude. He scolded my husband for looking at the pancake maker. Kind of odd.
