Reading some of the reviews on here gave me a good laugh. Some people seem to have champagne tastes on lemonade pockets. Bottom line, it’s billed as 3 star, priced at 2 star and is thoroughly worth every penny we paid. The food is good, not great, but varied, well cooked and served in a clean, if functional, restaurant. There was something for all tastes and the quality was fine. The rooms are pretty basic, but clean and comfortable. Cleaned daily and well maintained. The showers can be a bit temperamental at peak times, but never had too much of an issue. If you have small children they are probably best supervised as they can get very hot. The pool is cold. It’s a big tank of cold water. I don’t know if people expect it to be bath temperature, but it’s refreshing and fine after the initial plunge which can be a bit breathtaking. Staff here are great. So friendly and well above the expectations of the price range. Evening entertainment was not west end standard, but it’s not the west end. It was entertaining, well presented and a lot of fun. There was ample to do during the day with bags of encouragement to get involved. We didn’t have children with us, but even without it being on our radar it was obvious that there were loads of activities for them. Those who didn’t find it must have had bags on their heads. The bars were stocked with decent drinks, not brand name but very decent. Service was quick and, with one exception, friendly and welcoming. The one exception was entertainingly miserable and a bit Faultyesque in her rudeness, so became part of our entertainment. The local restaurants and bars cater for everyone and are pretty typical. There’s a fairly decent club within walking distance. The harbour has some great restaurants, and as the holiday is so cheap, you don’t mind eating out. Steak lovers can walk around 250m to Tivoli’s where you can get one of the best filets I’ve ever had, and if you’re looking for a good afternoon, the Jolly Rodger on the corner does “Rock around the pool” on Sunday. Music quality is great, though the 70 odd year old German lead singer doing a cross between Mick Jagger and Axel Rose is a bit surreal in a “can’t look away” kind of way. 100% entertainment for music and comedy lovers alike. All in all, we had a fantastic week. It’s cheap, and those suggesting they didn’t get great value are setting expectations they are not willing to pay for. A week’s all inclusive for the price of a long weekend self catering, absolute bargain. Loved it. Want more, pay more.!
