The hostel itself is great, the beds are comfy, there is aircon, breakfast is available at the second location nearby for 15.000 tsh, the showers are warm and clean, they also provide drinking water. However, there wasn’t many people staying there at all, this meant that it was kind of hard to connect with other solo travellers. It wasn’t vert much social at all. So if you’re looking for a social experience I don’t recommend staying here. The location however is great it’s in the middle of Stone Town meaning it is really easy to get anywhere in the area by foot, so for that purpose it is great! The staff was also super nice!

This is a delightful and unique hotel tucked away in Stonetown, very close to the ferry terminal and a short walk to the town centre. The staff are all incredibly friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable with a fan and a/c. The breakfasts were served outside in the garden with a menu with plenty of choice - plus delicious home-made jam! I also signed up for several of the local tours organised by the hotel, which were all very good.

Actually it was probably 2019 but the choice of dates does not go back so far. Having worked as a teacher on Zanzibar in the 1980s I decided to revisit the Island and stay in all the places I couldn't afford in those days. I spent a few nights with a couple of friends in the B&B apartments at the back of the hotel. These are airy and spacious, clean, immaculate and very comfortable. Then moved into the main hotel building for five nights when my partner arrived. The hotel, being an old, traditional house, is very quirky and full of atmosphere reminiscent of a bygone era. Wide, worn wooden staircases, balconies overlooking the sea, traditional mosquito netting over the beds, and outside dining overlooking the calm and peaceful sea, with its dhows sailing majestically along the coast. This place is heaven!!! So ..... come and stay, enjoy the charm of the Tembo House Hotel here in Zanzibar town and right on the beach. It's paradise in heaven!
