At We Are The Banned, readers have the opportunity to become the speakers in the room. Join us as inspired readers share with you their favorite book passages and reflect on what makes them so impactful. We encourage theatricality, group expression, and any creative idea that will help to bring the words to life. Whether poetic, comedic, heartbreaking or rage inducing- each selection offers a peek into the human experience using literature as the lens.  We Are The Banned is a live literary event series that invites readers to share short, meaningful passages from their favorite published books. More than just a reading, it’s an oratorical experience. One where participants express not only the written words, but also why those words matter. The theme for the next We Are The Banned is Forever Free. Interested in speaking? Sign up as a speaker and we will reach out to you. In the book Fahrenheit 451, when books become outlawed a small group of people memorized certain books to preserve them. This is the embodiment of what this event is. Providing oral alternatives to books that may not always be available. We Are The Banned operates with the knowing that if books are ultimately removed or erased, then we must become those books to preserve that knowledge and art of thought. We Are The Banned refers to the recognition that if the books are banned, then so are we.
