판테온은 누구나 살아생전에 꼭 가봐야 할 곳입니다. 서기 126년에 이렇게 웅장한 건축물이 지어지고도 그토록 훌륭한 상태를 유지하고 있다는 사실에 저는 큰 충격을 받았습니다. 외관은 웅장한 기둥들이 건물을 지탱하고 있어 놀랍도록 위풍당당합니다. 내부는 거대한 돔이 있는 완벽하게 대칭적인 원형 공간으로 이루어져 있습니다. 곳곳에 아름다운 기둥, 조각상, 그림들이 있습니다. 원래는 이교도 사원이자 로마 권력의 상징이었지만, 오늘날까지 사용되고 있는 교회로 탈바꿈했습니다. 정면 근처에는 18세기 초에 지어진 거대한 제단이 있습니다. 모든 이교도 조각상과 예술품은 철거되고 기독교를 기리는 것들로 대체되었습니다. 이 건물의 모든 것은 완벽하게 대칭을 이루며, 양쪽으로 세 세트의 기둥이 있고 가운데에는 예술품이 놓여 있습니다. 바닥부터 천장까지 모든 건축 요소가 매우 정교합니다. 대리석 바닥은 세 나라에서 가져온 것입니다. 붉은색은 이집트, 흰색은 소아시아에서 가져온 것입니다.
