We look forward to welcoming Martin MacIntyreto the shop on Friday 16th May at 7:30pm as we celebrate the publication of his significant addition to Gaelic-language, now in English for the very first time, A Summer Like No Other. Perfect for those who cherish Gaelic heritage, this book transcends geographical boundaries, appealing to anyone who values heartfelt storytelling and richly drawn characters.  Step back to the summer of 1978, where young Colin Quinn finds himself on South Uist with his charismatic uncle, Ruairidh Gillies. As the world turns its eyes to Scotland’s hopeful journey in the World Cup in Argentina, Colin and Ruairidh embark on a journey of their own, deepening their bond and navigating the complexities of life. This novel offers a vivid portrayal of the Outer Hebrides, capturing the raw beauty of the islands and the fierce, unpredictable elements. Readers will be drawn into the characters’ intimate moments of joy and profound challenges, all set against the stunning natural backdrop of South Uist.  Martin MacInture was born in 1965 to a South Uist father and Glaswegian mother, and was brought up in Lenzie. In 1988 he graduated from the University of Aberdeen in medicine, and has attained qualifications in Business and Gaidhealtachd Studies at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig. Martin divides his work-time between medicine, writing and storytelling. His previous publications include Ath-Aithne (Re-acquaintance), a collection of short stories which won The Saltire Society First Book Award in 2003 and Gymnippers Dicidian (Wednesday Gymnippers). - Doors: 7pm, event starts: 7:30pm, please arrive early to secure a good seat. Tickets are £3and there is a Ticket & Book option which includes a signed copy of A Summer Like No Other The bookshop has level access, events are seated and speakers use microphones. Refunds are reviewed on a case-by-case basis, we are unable to offer a refund after the event.
