Join the fun workshop "I Am Making Art: Reliquaries and Shrines with Ben Hartley" at Spike Island in Bristol. This workshop, inspired by Ofelia Rodríguez’s exhibition "Talking In Dreams," will be led by Bristol-based artist Ben Hartley. Participants will have the opportunity to explore reliquaries, talismans, and shrines, while creating their own unique reliquaries using everyday objects provided or sentimental objects brought from home. The workshop will also delve into the historical significance of shrines. All materials and box bases will be provided, and attendees are welcome to bring objects from home. Ben Hartley's art practice is centered around objects and materials, using fictioning to craft art that explores the anthropocene, folk culture, mythology, and the convergence of the past and future. Their interests span the anthropocene, animism, folk histories, speculative futures, dystopian fiction, chalk hill figures, ancient Bronze Age fertility statues, and queer interpretations of mythologies. This workshop is open to all ages and abilities. Don't miss this opportunity to engage with art, unleash your creativity, and delve into the world of reliquaries and shrines.
