Celebrate the arrival of Spring with the United Voices Choir. We are very excited to present a joyful and uplifting program of Handel's music, featuring the magnificent Coronation Anthems, including the famous Zadok the Priest, and the showpiece Dixit Dominus. This glorious music is sure to lift your spirits and brighten your day. Our choir of 65 voices, directed by the talented and inspiring Dr. Greg Caisley, will be joined by professional soloists and orchestra. Can any monarch have been crowned to more glorious music than George II in 1727? Handel’s four Coronation Anthems, which were commissioned for the occasion, embody majesty in music. These splendid choruses reflect Handel’s talent for writing music for grand occasions. Dixit Dominus is a dramatic tour de force for both singers and orchestra. Its unremitting energy and powerful intensity present considerable challenges for the performers, seldom equalled in his later works. One of the finest large Jazz Ensembles in Canada makes it's long awaited return to Vancouver's Fox Cabaret! On May 31, Dean Thiessen's Stranger Friends Orchestra will be celebrating the release of their first album on Infidels Jazz, at the venue that it was recorded at almost two years ago. They'll be performing a brand new piece by Dean: The John Steinbeck Suite. Each of the piece's 5 movements is inspired by a different novel or short story by this celebrated American author. Oppressive gender roles and surviving the machine that is Capitalism are the themes in Steinbeck's writing that read both as a glimpse into our recent past and a foreshadowing into our potential future.
