It's much better than Zhouzhuang, a little better than Tongli. Everywhere shows the simple life of Taicang people. It also proves that the governor of Bafu Prefecture of Germany said that Taicang people in Jiangsu Province, China, are real and honest. After reading many comments, they said that there are too few places for food and shopping. I wonder why not try the snacks made by local people themselves in ancient streets and alleys. If shopping, why not? Buy those local people to work by hand. Should every ancient town have the same chain of franchise stores? So which old town are we going to be different?
In December 2012, I visited Shaxi for more than three years. There were more tourists and more stores along the street. It might not be weekends or quiet. The noodles in the old Master's Noodle Hall were still delicious. The teahouse along the river was very elegant and the owner was very nice. There is a cafe called "Catwan" in the decoration of loquat trees accompanied by flowers winding stone staircase, imagine what it will look like after decoration. Ha-ha, it's good to stroll around ancient towns when you have leisure time.
Shaxi Ancient Town is the most living ancient town in the south of the Yangtze River that I have seen at present. Most of the people living in it are local residents. But the most obvious difference between Shaxi and other ancient towns in the south of the Yangtze River is that it is not as commercialized as other ancient towns in the south. It is quiet, not too noisy, and basically all the people living in it are local residents. Walking in the ancient town, you will see a very lively landscape. Elephants: Villagers at the entrance are taking care of their own affairs; not far away, you can also see people in tea houses drinking afternoon tea leisurely, talking and laughing, and also see crows at the entrance of tea houses chirping, as if to invite visitors to sit in for their owners; you can also see some old things sold in small shops on the street, while the owners are playing cards with friends; In the evening, when the light is shining, you can see a family gathering for dinner through the window; an old couple is running a tailor's shop, where grandpa is cutting clothes and grandma is standing by; you can also see tourists like us walking around the ancient town with cameras, standing on stone bridges, watching the ancient town in the drizzle, Jiangnan Town, which is a vivid portrait of life. This is the case.
Early autumn, warm and cool. Ancient town restrains and endures, but beauty seeps into bone marrow. White walls, grey tiles, weeping willows, blue water, ancient stone lanes, staggered time. Compared with Xitangwu Town, Zhouzhuang Tongli Town is quiet. The world is noisy and the ink fades. There is only one place we know - Shaxi Ancient Town, Taicang. Note: The ancient town is free of charge for strolling, and the individual landscape fees are charged. Surrounding cars, trains, convenience, recommendation.
Shaxi Ancient Town, a non-famous ancient town. From Taicang Bus Station to Shaxi Bus Station, you can get off and go north for ten minutes. Commercialization is a double-edged sword. It is precisely because most of the residents have been retained, so there are not many people here. At least I enjoy such purity.
The development process of Shaxi ancient town has the characteristics of urban development in general Jiangnan water network area. At first, the simple settlements along the river are expanded to form the banded settlements which are basically spread along the river network. With the development of Commerce and production, the zonal settlements along the river have gradually matured, forming an ancient town pattern of "One River, Two Streets, Three Bridges and One Island". One River (refers to Qipu River with a history of thousands of years, which runs across the town), two streets (refers to the old Qipu Street which runs three miles along the rivers on both sides of the north and south), three bridges (refers to the Liji Bridge, Yixing Bridge and Anqiao Bridge that crosses the old Qipu Street on both sides of the South and north), and one island (Olive Island). Shaxi Ancient Town is connected by the river hanging tower and the river shed, which stretches for hundreds of meters.
The quiet old town of Shaxi deserves our reading. The town is quiet and elegant. Compared with other ancient towns, it has no excessive commercial flavor. There are many residents living in it. Transportation: Starting at 7:00 a.m. from Shanghai Passenger Terminal (Zhongxing Road), we arrive at Taicang Bus Station (24 yuan) in about one hour and ten minutes. Then we buy bus tickets at the bus station (205 Road, 3 yuan). We will arrive at Shaxi Bus Station in a short time and walk for more than 10 minutes to Guzhen. Return Traffic: Shaxi Bus Station has two direct buses to Shanghai (time: afternoon shift: 1:15 and 3:20). The terminal is Shanghai Railway Station (South Square).
Shaxi Ancient Town is located in the middle of Taicang City. It is an ancient water town in the south of the Yangtze River with a history of more than 1300 years. Shaxi ancient town area preserves Ming and Qing Linshui buildings and long ancient streets, ancient alleys, ancient simple bridges and historical and cultural celebrities'former residences. Shaxi Ancient Town is now 4A Scenic Area. No gate tickets.
