Sentosa Island is easily overlooked because it is located in the deep of the island and can be reached by a short barge. It is the only well-preserved fortress in Singapore. There are underground tunnels, arsenals, watchtower, lighthouse, ancient artillery and so on. The surrounding environment is relaxed. Tourists who like military and history should not miss it.
The Siloso Fortress is an important military base to defend the western entrance of the Cemba Harbour. However, when the Japanese invaded, the Siloso Fort did not succeed in protecting the people of Singapore. Instead, it became a concentration camp for Japanese British war criminals and Singaporeans.
Located in a relatively remote area on Sentosa Island, a small side of the fort records the humiliating history of Singapore's invasion by Japan. Now it is believed that it has become a base of patriotic education. Free guides are available at 12:40 and 15:40 on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and National Holidays.
