Less people but full of feelings.... We enjoyed the walk and checking old stuff in the temple. An impressive big reclining buddha was worth a visit.

we took the Highspeed train from Lanzhou to Zhangye and continued by Car to the Mati Temple and Grottos. It was an amazing experience and good lesson in chinese history. make sure you calculate enough time for your visite if you plan to go all the way up to the top Grotto. whilst you there you must try the local lamb, i am not a fan of lamb but it was absolutly delicious no small of lamb. also try the local beef (Mau Neo)

The courtyard is simple and reminds a little park. But inside of temple buildings the gems of Zhangye are hidden! The Lying Big Buddha statue and Buddha bones after cremation makes it worth to visit. The atmosphere is quite and peaceful. I can't say I had the same feeling in many other temples I have visited before. Located in the city center, ticket price is 40 yuan.

Zhangye buddhist temple is the birthplace of Kublai khan.It has the biggest statue in the history at the birth place. it occupied the whole room.The ticket here is 60 rmb. For university student, you can get half discount. Nobody is allowed to take a picture inside.But, i tried to make picture secretly which became black. The whole place inside has no lights and thousands years old.

大佛寺坐落在張掖市中心，離木塔寺只有少於一公裏的距離，始建於西夏王朝永安年間，到現在已有900多年歷史，是當時的西夏國寺。國內最大的室內泥塑臥佛就在這裏，佛身長34.5米，光是一根手指就能平躺下一個人，真的非常壯觀（請配合不要拍照）。寺廟後面還有土塔，和木塔寺是張掖曾經很有名的五行塔中的兩個，至於其他三個塔，已經被損毀，張掖本地人也沒有見過。這是我見過最佛系的寺廟，是真正的佛系，寺裏佛像處寫著：禮佛得福報，無需奉錢物。供臺沒有孔讓你塞錢，佛像底座也沒有任何貢品，完全乾乾淨淨，沒有任何硬幣和吃的，只有在外面香台處讓人們燒香祈福，都是小香，沒有大隻的那種蠟燭之類。所以整個寺院非常整潔，包括門口的商鋪，也很清凈，這才是真正的佛祖心中留吧。寺裏的雕像非常有可看性，大多保存完好，只是壁畫損毀得有一點嚴重，寺里還有豐富的佛教展品可以參觀。
