Xuanwu Lake is located outside the city wall in the northeast of Nanjing. It is connected with the city by Xuanwu Gate and Jiefang Gate. It was established as a park in 1909. It was called Yuanwuhu Park at that time. It was also called Wuzhou Park and Houhu Park. Xuanwu Lake is a rhombic lakeshore with a circumference of about 10 kilometers, covering an area of 437 hectares and a water surface of about 368 hectares. There are five islands in the lake. The lake is divided into four parts. There are bridges or dikes between the islands, which are convenient for sightseeing. The depth of the lake does not exceed 2 meters. Fish are cultured and lotus flowers are planted in the lake. In summer and autumn, the water is green and pink. The lake is full of fragrance and charming scenery.
