Xishuangbanna General Buddhist Temple, located in Baji Road, Jinghong City, Xishuangbanna, is separated from the former Dai King's Royal Garden, which is now the Manyi Royal Garden. The Dai language is "Waba Ji" (also translated as Waba Jie). The meaning of "Wa Ba Ji" is monastery, "Da" is forest, and "Ji" is the abbreviation of Jie Da Lin to Lonely Garden, which Buddha once lived in 25 rains. Therefore, "Wa Ba Ji" means a beautiful and quiet forest track like Jie Da Lin to Lonely Garden. According to legend, the General Buddhist Temple in Xishuangbanna was built by two monks from Myanmar in 615 AD. It has a history of more than 1400 years. It is the earliest Southern Buddhist temple in Xishuangbanna. The General Buddhist Temple in Xishuangbanna was established as a royal monastery by the Dai Dynasty in Xishuangbanna about 700 years ago. It has become the highest-ranking Buddhist temple in Xishuangbanna. Because of its long history and the emergence of many high-ranking monks, it enjoys a high status among the Buddhist believers in the Upper Seats of Southeast Asia. It is a holy place revered in the hearts of Southern Buddhists. The General Buddhist Temple in Xishuangbanna has gone through many vicissitudes and has been damaged and restored many times in history. During the Cultural Revolution, Waba Ji was completely destroyed. In 1989, Waba Ji was rebuilt at its original site. When Zhao Puchu, then president of the Buddhist Association of China, came to inspect the restoration of Nanchuan Buddhism, he happily wrote the inscription for Waba Ji and the plaque of the General Buddhist Temple in Xishuangbanna. In 1998, the Royal Thai Kingdom celebrated the 72-year-old birthday of His Majesty King Bhumibol-Adulder. A Buddhist Hall was built at the General Buddhist Temple in Xishuangbanna. When people were ready to give up, an old man came. Overnight, he made the head of the bamboo Buddha vividly, but the old man disappeared. It turned out that God came down to help the Dai people who believed in Buddhism and Dharma fulfill this beautiful wish. Therefore, bamboo Buddhist statues have become one of the unique Buddhist cultural traditions in Southeast Asia.
