The scenery of Xiziwan in Kaohsiung is beautiful and magnificent. The British Consulate for Dogging was built on a hill in Xiziwan. It was founded in 1866 at the end of the Qing Dynasty. It was the first consulate officially built by foreigners in Taiwan in the Qing Dynasty. Dog beating is a transliteration of Taiwanese Aboriginal languages, representing a place name, meaning that the British Consulate is in the place of Dog beating. The "Doggy British Consulate" next to Xiziwan is a small two-storey building with white latticed windows, brick-red walls, roundabout corridors, green lawns, colorful paintings and elegant English style. Here we can feel the historical features of Kaohsiung for more than one hundred years. Who understands Taiwan's history is a good example.
