The museum was originally set up as a teaching resource for the Egyptian Archaeology and Documentation Department of University College London. It has not been expected to gradually develop into such a large scale as it is today. It attracts many visitors every year. Many of the collections here bear the title of "first", including one piece of early linen from Egypt, about 5000 B.C., two stone lions from 3000 B.C., fragments from the calendar of 2900 B.C., the earliest metal products from Egypt - finished iron beads, the earliest glass, Egypt "sealed cylinder" in 3500 B.C., and the oldest papyrus paper. Old will, the oldest gynecological papyrus, the only veterinary papyrus in ancient Egypt, the largest shrine building drawings in 1300 BC, and so on.
