Downing Street, a Georgian-style building, is located in the Whitehall of Westminster District, London. Traditionally the residence of the First Chancellor of the Exchequer, it has been widely recognized as the residence of the British Prime Minister since it was assumed by the Prime Minister. Its simple black wooden door, decorated with white Arabic numerals "10", has become a well-known symbol. Downing Street 10 is the center of British government and one of the power cores of British politics.
