A national and thematic museum, which integrates the functions of cultural relics protection, exhibition and scientific research, is also China's first museum with the theme of words. A total of 4123 Tibetan cultural relics, including 305 first-class cultural relics, involving oracle bone inscriptions, bronze inscriptions, bamboo slips and silk scripts, Chinese character development history, Chinese character calligraphy history, minority characters, world characters and other aspects. On November 29, 2007, the first phase of the project started and opened on November 16, 2009.
