The Mongshan Buddha is a miracle. The Great Buddha was excavated in the days of Tianbao in the Northern Qi Dynasty. It was originally a cliff Buddha statue after Kaihua Temple in Mengshan, Li Yuan, Li Zhi and Empress Wu Zetian in the Tang Dynasty, Li Ke, Emperor Wu of the latter Tang Dynasty, and Liu Zhiyuan, emperor of the latter Han Dynasty, all came here to rite Buddha. The great Buddha was destroyed at the end of the Yuan Dynasty, and was hidden in the deep mountains until the census of Taiyuan place names was rediscovered in 1980. However, the damage was very serious, the weathering was severe, and the Buddha's head did not know where to go. Now the Mongshan Buddha is going home according to the historical records. On the basis of the original records, the head of the Buddha is redesigned and installed. The chest and neck part of the Buddha is exposed at the site. It is 17.5 meters high, 25 meters wide, and the neck diameter is 5 meters wide. The Tang Dynasty records "200 feet high" and the current 63 meters are calculated according to the ordinary ruler of the Tang Dynasty. In terms of height, Mengshan Buddha is the second largest Buddha in the world, and in terms of age, it is the earliest large stone Buddha statue in the world. At present, the Mongshan Grand Buddha Scenic Area is planned and constructed centering on the Grand Buddha. The Grand Buddha Scenic Area is free of charge, but you need to take a bus (strongly recommended) to and from the parking lot and the scenic spot post station, 1.2 kilometers from the post station to the Grand Buddha. The average person walks for about 15 minutes. There are other monuments nearby that can be turned around. This scenic spot is not far from Jinci Temple. It is suitable for self-driving. It is recommended to go there. It feels that in a few years, the fame will rise and tickets will be collected.
