Lyttelton is a port town on the east coast of South Island, about 12 kilometers away from Christchurch and belongs to a district of Christchurch. There is a 1.9 kilometre long railway between the town and Christchurch, which is connected by a highway tunnel. This tunnel is the longest highway tunnel and the oldest railway tunnel in New Zealand. The other side of the tunnel is a container terminal. You can view the whole harbour and even observe the operation of the wharf at close range.
