The Civil Affairs Department Building is the most representative building in Macau. It is located in the busy heart of Macau. It is located in a conference Pavilion of a Chinese Pavilion in history. It read out government orders for the Ming Dynasty government and served as a meeting place for Chinese and Portuguese officials. Built in 1784, the former city hall has a Portuguese garden behind it, a celestial garden and a bust of the Portuguese poet James. At present, there are two free guided services (45 minutes each, 5 minutes at halftime) in the Civil Affairs Department Building from 3 p.m. to 4.35 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
