Jinan Museum is a local comprehensive museum. It was founded in December 1958. Its original site is in Potuquan Park. In January 1966, it moved to Weisan Road in the middle of the city. In August 1971, it moved to No. 6 Minkangli in the middle of the city. There were no exhibition rooms. Located on the west side of Qianfoshan Park, a scenic spot, the museum started construction in March 1989 and was completed in May 1992. It was put into use in 1997. The Pavilion covers an area of 8500 square meters, with a building area of 6300 square meters, of which 2400 square meters are displayed. In 1998, it was officially announced and licensed as the first patriotic education base in Jinan. Jinan Museum is mainly responsible for collecting, preserving, displaying, publicizing and scientific research of movable cultural relics in the whole city. There are more than 40 staff members in the museum, including one research librarian, one first-class artist and 11 associate research librarians. Jinan Museum participated in the excavation of Dawenkou Site in Tai'an at the beginning of its establishment. Its great harvest and naming of Dawenkou Culture in Neolithic Age have become one of the major achievements of archaeological work in New China. In 1959 and 1961, Li Qingzhao Memorial Hall and Xin Qiji Memorial Hall of Song Dynasty poets were established successively in Baotuquan Park and Daming Lake Park. Over the past forty years, nearly one hundred special exhibitions have been launched, such as "Exhibition of Cultural Relics unearthed from Dawenkou Site", "Exhibition of Ceramics of Past Dynasties", "Exhibition of Revolutionary Cultural Relics of Jinan Campaign", "Exhibition of Fine Calligraphy and Painting Collections of Ming and Qing Dynasties in the Library". In November 1985, he was invited to visit the friendly cities of Japan and Geshan to hold "Jinan Historic Relics Exhibition", which pioneered the regional cultural relics exhibition in Shandong Province abroad. The collection of cultural relics has also been exhibited abroad with national and provincial cultural relics exhibitions for many times, which has played a positive role in promoting cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries, expanding external influence and enhancing the visibility of Jinan.
