The Eastern Circle Gate was formed in the Ming Dynasty. During Zhengde's reign, the Salt Transport Envoy Department built three gates on the east, South and north sides of the city because it was alone. The East Gate Tower was called the East Circle Gate, and formed a street about 700 meters long to the east. There were several alleys beside it, which became the salt merchants'habitat. There are many cultural relics and monuments along Donghuanmen Street. From West to east, there are Donghuanmen Gate Tower, Huyuan, President Jiang Zemin's former residence, Qingxi's former residence (Confucian Liu Wenqi's former residence), Wangshi Xiaoyuan (provincial cultural protection unit); the west end of the street is facing the former Salt Transport Envoy's Office, while the east end is Qionghua Guan. Nowadays, there are many hotels and inns in the big house.
