After leaving the Doggy Railway Story Hall, we went to rent a battery car for a tour of Xiziwan and to the British Consulate for Doggy. The British Consulate of Dogging is on a hill in Xiziwan, climbing a small mountain road. Because of the high terrain, there will be a good view. Unfortunately, we did not arrive before sunset. It was already dark when we went up. We missed the beautiful sunset and the best perspective overlooking Xiziwan. It's a pity. When I bought the tickets, the red brick two-storey house came into view, with white latticed windows, brick-red walls, roundabout corridors and green lawns. It should be more beautiful in the daytime under the sunshine. Inside, one exhibition room shows the documents and materials of Taiwan in the past hundred years, including the historical materials of Taiwan's modern foreign relations, the background of human, historical and geographical data of the development of the Dagou area, and the cultural relics of the construction of the British Consulate, which are very rich in content. In the museum, wax figures of officials meeting at that time were also displayed, which was very lifelike. Along the sign, there are also steps outside to the viewing platform, mountain climbing road. At the door of the first floor, there are several wax figures showing the daily communication between British officials and the people. It's interesting, but unfortunately I missed the beauty of the day.
When it comes to this name, it always reminds people of the "Heroes of Archery and Carving" "Beating Dog Stick Method" of the gang, which is actually two words that have nothing to do with it. The former British Consulate of Qingdaogou was built in 1865. It is located in Gushan, north of the port of Kaohsiung (Qingdaogou Port). It is about 30 meters above the surface of the water. The east, West and south sides are close to the steep cliff, and the north side is connected with Gushan. It forms a situation of backing up the hill and surrounded by water on three sides. The building is a post-Renaissance Baroque style. The original designer is British. Buildings have fireplaces in their rooms and basements of varying heights. Although the architects were British, the craftsmen were employed from mainland China, and the red bricks for architecture were transported from Xiamen. The bamboo-shaped downspouts were the characteristics of the foreign buildings in the late Qing Dynasty. It was an important base for Britain to handle customs and taxation work in Taiwan at that time, as well as Chinese and foreigners imprisoned in dog-beating areas who violated the "Dog-beating Consular Port Regulations". Among the existing modern Western architecture in Taiwan, the British Consulate for Dogging is the oldest.

Looking down at the beautiful Xiziwan Bay in the elegant antique buildings, it's so pleasant to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the sea and sky in a line of sunset while blowing the sea breeze. Unfortunately, I didn't arrange my time well for it to come in the morning. Food: Rose milk tea is recommended. There is a consular wife's British afternoon tea double set at NT$599. Limited supply feels great.
The British Consulate for Dogging is the first foreign building in Taiwan. It is the first consulate built by the British in Taiwan after the signing of the Beijing Treaty. For more than 140 years, the old British consulate, baptized by wars and typhoons, once turned into a rubble, which was restored in 1987 and classified as a second-class antique. At the juncture of mountains and seas, you can overlook the seascape of Xiziwan. The east, West and south sides are all close to the steep cliff, and the north side is connected with Gushan, forming the situation of backing the mountain and surrounding the water on three sides. To the west, the Taiwan Strait is the only way for cargo ships to and from Kaohsiung Port. To the east, it faces Kaohsiung City, overlooking the city and port of Kaohsiung. Now it has become an open-air cafe, full of romance, is the perfect place for Kaohsiung people to relax in the afternoon and at night.

It was the first consulate officially built by foreigners in Taiwan in the Qing Dynasty. Dog beating is a transliteration of Taiwanese Aboriginal languages, representing a place name, meaning that the British Consulate is in the place of Dog beating. The "Doggy British Consulate" next to Xiziwan is a small two-storey building with white latticed windows, brick-red walls, roundabout corridors, green lawns, colorful paintings and elegant English style. Here we can feel the historical features of Kaohsiung for more than one hundred years. Who understands Taiwan's history is a good example.
The British Consulate of Dogging is Taiwan's first fully built and solid foreign house. The foreign building is built on a hill. Its geographical position is very advantageous. It faces the Taiwan Strait in the west. It is the only way for freighters to enter and leave Kaohsiung Port. It faces Kaohsiung City in the East and overlooks the downtown area of Kaohsiung.
The English translation of Kaohsiung is "beating dog", which was called "beating dog British consulate" when the British consulate was built in Kaohsiung during the Qing Dynasty. Now the consulate built on the mountain has become a relic for visitors to watch. The consulate is a good place to see Kaohsiung City and the harbour on the East and the sea and sunset on the west.
Dog beating is the old name of Kaohsiung in Taiwan. It was not until 1920 that Kaohsiung changed its name from dog beating. Before the renaming, Taiwan had been forcibly opened by Western powers and established a consulate. The old consulate site has become a historical site, preserving the old buildings.
