its just an awesome place to make you refresh. don't forget to bring your dslr!
Probably the best view in Australia near a city. It is just a weeny 20min uphill drive from downtown Hobart. You see Australia didn't really get mountains ... it just sort of got hills! But this is a mountain and it provides for Hobart, one of the most recognisable cityscapes in Oz.
Amazing view of Tasmania and if you are not into hiking, you can take a bus to the top of the mountian!
Mount Wellington is the backdrop to Hobart and makes the city itself look all the more beautiful. You can choose to walk up the mountain via some trails, but we drove the windy road up there, stopping for an echidna who decided to cross the road in front of our car! At the top of Pinnacle Road is a lookout that gives you sweeping views of the city. Even though it was a warm summer’s day in Hobart, it was a lot colder on the mountain and right at the top it was very windy, so bring warm clothing.
A truly wonderful experience. The view of Hobart was spectacular. I was lucky enough to visit on a clear winters day. It was very cold and windy however there was a little snow at the top so it made the conditions totally bearable. A wonderful drive to the summit and something I plan to do each time I visit Hobart!
The twisty narrow road up to the lookout is treacherous but the rewarding panoramic views are worth it. Dress for cooler temperatures than the city and don't be surprised to see snow. You can also collect fresh spring water along the way from the side of the mountain. And while at the summit, beware of the electromagnetic charge that can wreak havoc with your car’s electronics and prevent it from opening or starting.
