Holyrood Is an amazing palace. It is the residence of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II when she visits Scotland. However, it is more than just the palace of the UK's longest reigning monarch, it was the palace of so many kings and queens before her. It was the palace where Bonnie Prince Charlie stayed when he was trying to win back his father's crown from King George (for all you Outlander fans out there). The palace is beautiful and elaborate, ornately decorated (as all palaces should be) and it has a hall of paintings of all of the Scottish monarchs. Next to the palace is the old Holyrood abbey. It is a very nice spot to take some awesome pictures.
I loved it! A free audio guide (available in multiple languages) is included in your entrance fee, and takes you throughout the palace and into rooms such as the King and Queens chambers with a historic background as you make your way through. During the summer months the garden becomes open to the public.
