Dirleton Castle is a medieval defensive castle in Anderson Village, East Lothie, Scotland. It is about 31 kilometers from Edinburgh. Founded in the 13th century (1240), it was destroyed in the 17th century. The castle was badly damaged during the Scottish War of Independence. In the 14th century, the Haliburton family funded the restoration of the castle. In 1505, the Ruthwin family occupied the castle. Many Scottish allusions relate to the castle, including Lord Ruthven's many involvement in overthrowing Queen Mary of Scots. There is a story in the Oxford English listening novel about him killing her secretary (David Rizzio) in front of Queen Mary. The castle is now a historic building in Scotland. I also went with my friends and family in Singapore. Buildings over the past 900 years still retain some of the original features of ancient times.
