#12월여행지원금 Accessibility and Navigation Stan Hywet does a commendable job making a 1915 estate accessible. The Manor House tour is mostly on the first floor for "Deck the Hall," and they have ramps for wheelchair access. The garden paths are paved and well-lit, though they can be slippery if there’s fresh snow. They also have a "Sensory-Friendly" quiet space available, which includes weighted pads and noise-canceling headphones for those who might get overwhelmed by the lights and crowds. It’s a thoughtful touch that shows the staff’s commitment to making the event inclusive for everyone. We found the "one-way" flow of the house tour very efficient, even on a busy Saturday night.

#12월여행지원금 The Butler’s Pantry: Christmas Dinner Prepped The Butler’s Pantry is a fascinating look into the "behind-the-scenes" life of a Gilded Age estate. For the holidays, it’s set up to show the "Christmas Dinner in Progress," with vintage copper pots, "prop" turkeys, and lists of the massive quantities of food needed for a Seiberling feast. It smells faintly of spices and citrus. It’s a nice contrast to the formal dining room, showing the hard work that went into creating the "magic" for the family upstairs. Reviewers often mention this as one of their favorite "authentic" rooms because it feels so real and unpretentious.

#12월여행지원금 Strolling the "Homes of Nature" The "Homes of Nature" area is a quieter, more rustic part of the light display. In 2025, the paths are illuminated with soft amber and green lights that highlight the natural shapes of the trees and shrubs. It’s a "woodland" experience that feels very peaceful. We noticed several "hidden" owl and fox lanterns tucked into the brush. It’s a great place for a romantic walk away from the crowds of the Great Garden. The lighting here is more subtle, focusing on the "Awe and Wonder" of the winter forest. It provides a nice balance to the high-wattage "Dazzle" show nearby.

#12월여행지원금 The Corbin Conservatory’s Poinsettia Tree A walk through the Corbin Conservatory is a "tropical holiday" escape. The humidity and the smell of damp earth provide a nice break from the Ohio winter air. The centerpiece is a massive "Poinsettia Tree" made of hundreds of individual red and white plants. In 2025, they’ve also strung the cacti with multi-colored lights, which is a quirky and fun touch. Walking the paths surrounded by exotic greenery while "Christmas in the Tropics" music plays is a unique vibe. It’s also where you can buy high-quality poinsettias to take home, with varieties I’ve never seen at a standard nursery. It’s a "botanical" holiday treat that shouldn't be missed.

#12월여행지원금 The "Santa’s Closet" Experience In Gertrude Seiberling’s dressing room, the decorators have created "Santa’s Closet," a whimsical look at where the big man might keep his spare suits. It’s filled with red velvet coats, oversized boots, and "Letters to Santa" spilling out of drawers. It’s a very clever use of a smaller, more intimate space. The kids found it hilarious to see Santa’s "laundry" hanging up. It’s these small, creative details that make the Stan Hywet tour stand out from other historic home tours. It feels more like a lived-in story than a museum. The "personal" nature of the Seiberling family is always present, making the holiday magic feel grounded in real life.

#12월여행지원금 Molly’s Gift Shop: Holiday Bounty Molly’s Gift Shop is one of the best museum shops in the state, and during the holidays, it’s a "must-visit." They have a huge selection of Stan Hywet-branded ornaments, locally made soaps, and high-end holiday decor. We found a beautiful glass ornament shaped like the Manor House that will be a permanent part of our tree. They also carry a great selection of "nostalgic" toys and books that fit the "1920s" vibe of the estate. It’s a great place to do some last-minute shopping while supporting the preservation of the site. The staff is incredibly helpful and will even gift-wrap your purchases for a small donation.

#12월여행지원금 Nightly Tree Lighting with Santa Every evening at 5:30 PM (through Dec 23), Santa himself leads a tree-lighting ceremony in the Carriage House Courtyard. It’s a high-energy event with music and a countdown that the whole crowd joins in on. After the lighting, Santa retreats to "Rudolph’s Corral" where kids can visit with him and take photos. In 2025, the corral is decorated with vintage sleighs and "reindeer snacks." Even after Santa goes back to the North Pole on the 24th, the "Gingerbread Man" takes over the tree-lighting duties, keeping the tradition alive through the end of the year. It’s the "official" start to the night’s festivities.

#12월여행지원금 The Grandeur of the Great Hall Walking into the Great Hall during "Deck the Hall" is an immediate immersion into Gilded Age luxury. For 2025, the theme "Home for the Holidays" brings a traditional, nostalgic feel to the manor's largest room. The 16-foot tree is draped in gold and silver, perfectly complementing the wood-paneled walls and historic tapestries. The docents do a wonderful job explaining how the Seiberling family celebrated here over a century ago. It’s not just a display; it’s a living history lesson. The smell of fresh pine and the soft glow of the fire make it feel incredibly welcoming despite the massive scale. It is the perfect start to a #hellochristmas tour, setting a tone of elegance that carries through the entire 65-room mansion.

#12월여행지원금 Dazzle: A Choreographed Symphony of Light The "Dazzle" light show in the Great Garden is easily the highlight of the outdoor experience. In 2025, the show is choreographed to three new holiday medleys, with thousands of lights dancing in perfect synchronization. We stood near the overlook and watched the patterns shift from vibrant reds to icy blues. It is a high-energy, modern contrast to the historic feel of the house. The way the lights reflect off the snow and the garden structures creates a 360-degree sensory experience. It runs continuously every evening, so you can catch it multiple times. It’s the kind of display that makes you feel like a kid again, staring in awe at the sheer technical mastery of the light design.

#12월여행지원금 A "Non Nobis Solum" Farewell As you exit the manor house, you pass under the stone carving that reads "Non Nobis Solum" (Not for us alone). This was the Seiberling family motto, and it feels especially poignant during the holidays. Stan Hywet is a gift from the family to the public, and the "Deck the Hall" event is the ultimate expression of that generosity. The 1.4 million lights, the 23 trees, and the choreographed shows are all designed to bring the community together. You leave the estate feeling a sense of shared history and festive joy. It is a "Majestic, radiant, and heartfelt" end to the year. For a #hellochristmas memory in Ohio, there is simply no place better than Stan Hywet.

#12월여행지원금 The "Disco" Room in Irene’s Suite For a complete change of pace, head to Irene Seiberling’s room, which has been given a "Disco Holiday" makeover for 2025. With a giant disco ball hanging from the ceiling and mirror-ball garlands draped over the furniture, it’s a high-energy, funky take on the holidays. The playlist in this room is all 70s holiday hits, and it’s impossible not to tap your toes. It’s a great example of the "Pop Culture" infusion that Stan Hywet uses to keep the event from feeling too "stuffy." It was definitely the most "fun" room on the tour and a big hit with the teenagers in our group.

#12월여행지원금 The "Manor House" Scavenger Hunt To keep the younger guests engaged, Stan Hywet provides a holiday scavenger hunt for the Manor House tour. Kids have to find specific items—like a "Goodyear Blimp" ornament or a "hidden elf"—in each of the 20 decorated rooms. My 8-year-old was laser-focused on finding every item, which allowed the adults to actually read the historical plaques and appreciate the decor. It turns the "museum" experience into a game. At the end, the kids can show their completed list for a small "Certificate of Merit." It’s a simple, free addition that makes a big difference for families.

#12월여행지원금 The "Linenfold" Snowflake Hallway The Linenfold Hallway, famous for its intricate wood carvings that look like folded fabric, is transformed into a "Snowflake Gallery" for 2025. Thousands of paper and glass snowflakes are suspended from the ceiling, illuminated by color-shifting LEDs. As you walk through, the colors transition from deep violet to crisp white. It creates a "spectrum of colors" that makes the dark wood paneling pop. It’s one of the most photogenic hallways in the house and a favorite for "artistic" shots. It’s a perfect example of how the decorators use the existing architecture to enhance the holiday theme.

#12월여행지원금 Music in the Music Room The Music Room at Stan Hywet is a grand space with incredible acoustics, and during "Deck the Hall," it hosts local choirs and musicians every evening. We were lucky enough to hear a brass quintet playing traditional carols. The 16-foot tree in this room is flanked by three smaller trees, creating a "forest" of light around the performers. It adds an auditory layer to the holiday experience that is deeply moving. Sitting on the perimeter benches and listening to the music while surrounded by Gilded Age art is a true "luxury" experience. It’s a reminder that this house was built for entertaining and that the holiday spirit is best shared through song.

#12월여행지원금 The Solarium’s Celestial Theme The Solarium is always one of the most beautiful rooms in the house due to its natural light, but for the holidays, it features a "Celestial" theme that is simply breathtaking. Decorated in deep blues, silvers, and whites, the room feels like a frozen winter night. The ornaments include stars, moons, and glass icicles that catch the light from the garden outside. It’s a more "contemplative" space compared to the Great Hall. Standing there, looking out at the illuminated gardens while surrounded by the "Starry Night" decor, was a highlight of our visit. It’s a masterclass in how to use a specific color palette to change the mood of a historic space.

#12월여행지원금 The "Barbie" Room and Pop Culture Touches One of the surprises of the 2025 Manor House tour is the room belonging to Virginia Seiberling, which has been transformed into a "Barbie" wonderland. With a hot pink tree and vintage Barbie accessories, it’s a fun, pop-culture-infused break from the traditional Victorian decor. It shows that Stan Hywet isn't afraid to have a little fun with their themes. Other rooms are infused with "Winter Whimsy," featuring playful elves and even a Lego-themed display that the kids absolutely adored. These modern touches make the house tour feel fresh and accessible to a younger generation while still respecting the historic integrity of the site.

#12월여행지원금 Hot Cocoa and the Courtyard Fire After walking the grounds, there is nothing better than retreating to the Carriage House Courtyard to warm up. The fire pits are large and well-tended, providing a cozy gathering spot for visitors. We grabbed some of the famous freshly baked gingerbread cookies and hot cocoa from Molly’s Courtyard Café. For the adults, they also offer local craft beer and mulled wine. The atmosphere in the courtyard is festive and social; you’ll see families taking photos in front of the giant 20-foot tree while others roast marshmallows. It’s the "social hub" of the event and the best place to rest your feet before heading into the gift shop.

#12월여행지원금 The 1920s Akron Window Display Just outside Molly’s Shop, the animated shop windows are a charming nod to local history. One window depicts "Downtown Akron at Dusk" circa 1920, complete with tiny trolley cars and vintage storefronts. The detail is incredible—you can see miniature shoppers holding Goodyear-branded bags! The second window, the "Gingerbread Bakeshop," features animated bakers in perpetual motion. It’s a wonderful piece of nostalgia that connects the estate to the "Rubber City" heritage. We spent ten minutes just pointing out the tiny details to the kids. It’s a quiet, storytelling moment that adds depth to the event, reminding us that Stan Hywet has always been a pillar of the Akron community.

#12월여행지원금 Gingerbread Land and the Playgarden For families with young children, Gingerbread Land is a dream come true. The popular Playgarden has been "dressed up" for the 2025 season with giant candy canes, glowing lollipops, and a whimsical gingerbread house. My kids loved the interactive elements, like the "ice" tunnels and the light-up stepping stones. The scale is perfect for toddlers, and the one-way path makes it easy for parents to keep track of everyone. The lighting is bright and cheerful, utilizing a candy-colored palette that stands out from the more formal garden lights. It’s a playful, high-energy zone that ensures the little ones have just as much fun as the adults.
